Position Overview
PURPOSE:
● To glorify God through music ministries, opening the soul through music as a form of prayer, using our God-given gifts in music to foster a deeper connection to God and one another
● To work with the Director of Music Ministries to enhance our common worship experience through empowering our people to share their spiritual gifts, and glorify God through the music and arts of our worship services
● To engage, discover, encourage, and foster the growth of musical and artistic gifts of the congregation and provide opportunities for worship participation in a variety of musical and arts ensembles
Principal Accountabilities
● Plan, rehearse and direct the Youth Choir and Bell Choir
● Choose a wide variety of music suitable to age, ability, and interest of choral and bell ensemble members to enhance the congregation’s worship experience in a meaningful way
● Oversee ordering of music, equipment, supplies and maintaining appropriate licensing agreements for the Youth Choir and Bell Choir
● Maintain music library for the Youth Choir and Bell Choir
● Select and maintain instruments for the Youth Choir and Bell Choir
● Work with the Faith Formation Ministry and Children's Church to present and teach monthly Children's Church songs.
● Abide by church staff covenant
Hours Required
● 10 – 12 hours per week, mostly Sundays plus occasional extra rehearsals
● 9 - month position Sept - May with occasional opportunities during the summer
Job Skills Required
● Demonstrated ability to lead the musical component of a worship service and to create, implement, and facilitate a wide variety of meaningful worship experiences
● Experience in the development of church music programs for all ages and ability levels
● Proficient in short and long-range worship planning for the two groups
● Possess physical ability to negotiate the sanctuary during the worship service including stairs
Educational Requirement
● BA in music education is preferred. Equivalent experience may include choral conducting, music performance or a closely related field.
Pay: $18.00 - $23.00 per hour
