Security Officers are responsible for the overall safety and security of the school and must prepare for and respond to emerging threats and emergency situations to minimize the risk of harm to students, staff, and visitors. The security team plays a critical role in deterring outside and inside threats to Allen ISD students, staff, and visitors through a layered security posture, including personnel and electronic monitoring systems, which functions in cooperation with parents, counselors, teachers, and law enforcement, while maintaining an educational environment that empowers every learner to realize his or her full potential.
** Beginning in the Fall 2026 semester, the Curtis and Ford campuses will undergo significant construction-related changes as part of the 2024 Bond Program renovations. This position will support a safe and secure learning environment by monitoring and controlling access between the portable classroom areas and the main building, enhancing campus security, and helping ensure the safety of students, staff, and visitors throughout the renovation period.
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
- Perform duties required by Texas Education Code (TEC) Section 37.081 Subchapter C, Law and Order, as well as the Texas Education Agency (TEA) Commissioner’s rules concerning School Safety Requirements as specified in §61.1031.
- Fulfill duties associated with the post assigned as part of the school’s comprehensive security plan; maintain an orderly post and remain at the post at all times unless otherwise directed by a supervisor.
- Using layered security model, ensure only authorized personnel are allowed to enter the assigned Allen ISD campus. If needed, redirect or escort from property.
- Utilization of handheld metal detectors when necessary.
- Monitor, log and make appropriate notifications regarding any emergency situations via phone, in person or radio communications.
- Actively respond to incidents, fights or other security issues in the school that threaten the safety of students, staff, and/or guests utilizing Safety Care skills up to and including momentary physical intervention if warranted by the safety risk.
- Report unusual activity or suspicions of safety issues to the Security Supervisor or administration in a timely fashion.
- Actively participate in professional development training to ensure ongoing growth and to advance skills.
- Serve as a primary participant in emergency response during crisis situations including but not limited to fire, tornado and active shooter incidents.
- Adherence to Allen ISD Safe and Secure Schools Security Monitor Code of Conduct.
General Technical Responsibilities:
- Monitor all camera locations and maintain recorded log of camera activity.
- Review and download video for valid requests related to school or student security incidents and/or valid court subpoena for law enforcement criminal investigations.
- Experience with Allen ISD technology systems utilized for school safety processes (i.e. camera systems or entry screening systems)
- Monitor two-way radio emergency channels and serve as primary point of emergency contact and Safe and Secure Schools Operations Center
- Utilize the Hall Pass Entry system for individuals entering the buildings, destination within the building, and the time the individuals are exiting the buildings.
Pay: $16.75 - $19.77 per hour
