The Hired Bar is leading the search for a Post-Harvest & Warehouse Coordinator on behalf of an innovative indoor vertical farming company in Chester, Virginia.
This is a hands-on opportunity to support the post-harvest operation of a high-tech indoor farm producing fresh strawberries year-round. The Post-Harvest Coordinator will oversee day-to-day warehouse, shipping and receiving activities while helping coordinate packout, inventory, quality, and logistics.
We're looking for someone who understands how to keep a fast-moving operation organized—from receiving materials and maintaining accurate inventory to coordinating outbound shipments and ensuring fresh product is packed accurately and ready to ship.
Experience working with perishable products, food production, produce, agriculture, cold storage, or fresh-food distribution is especially valuable.
What You'll Do
- Oversee daily warehouse and farmhouse activities, including order pulling, shipping documentation, loading/unloading, and securing loads
- Coordinate shipping and receiving activities, including scheduling trucks and deliveries with external vendors
- Verify bills of lading and ensure incoming and outgoing materials match orders and documentation
- Maintain accurate inventory using a Warehouse Management System (WMS) and partner with Farm Operations on inventory needs
- Communicate with vendors and provide timely shipment and delivery updates to internal stakeholders
- Help coordinate the packout team and farm labor contractors to ensure strawberries are properly sorted, packed, labeled, and prepared according to SKU and quality specifications
- Maintain product traceability throughout packout, including accurate grow-room identification and pallet organization
- Partner with Production and QA/QC teams to identify and resolve packing, sorting, quality, and process issues
- Support quality-control trials and post-harvest quality standards within the packing operation
- Operate stand-up and sit-down forklifts and help train team members on proper operation
- Use NetSuite and other operational systems to support inventory, shipping, and warehouse activities
- Escalate operational issues and partner cross-functionally to keep product and materials moving efficiently
What We're Looking For
- 2+ years of experience in customer fulfillment, warehouse operations, logistics, distribution, or a related environment
- 1+ year of shipping and receiving experience
- Experience working with perishable goods, fresh produce, food manufacturing, agriculture, or cold-chain operations is strongly preferred
- Experience using a WMS or other inventory management system
- Forklift experience, including stand-up and/or sit-down equipment
- Strong attention to detail, particularly around inventory, shipping documentation, product specifications, and traceability
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to learn new technology and operational systems quickly
- Ability to work effectively across Production, Quality, Operations, and external logistics partners
- Spanish language skills are a plus
- International shipping experience is a plus
Food Safety & Work Environment
This position operates in a food production and warehouse environment and requires adherence to applicable OSHA, EPA, FDA, HACCP, SQF, GMP, and PPE requirements.
Candidates must be able to:
- Push and pull up to 100 lbs.
- Stand and walk for extended periods
- Work occasional overtime and weekends based on business needs
- Work safely in a fast-paced food production and warehouse environment
- Meet all applicable food safety, quality, and workplace safety requirements
Applicants must be at least 18 years old.
Pay: $20.00 - $22.00 per hour
