American Building Development is a California-based construction and engineering company specializing in residential and multi-family structural projects, including structural repairs, balconies, decks, foundation reinforcement, waterproofing systems, and code compliance upgrades.
We are looking for a Structural Project Engineer or Structural Designer with residential structural experience who is ready to take on meaningful projects and grow with a rapidly expanding company.
This is a small, collaborative team where strong performers can take on increasing responsibility, work directly with decision-makers, and have a visible impact on project delivery. The role offers exposure to structural design, permitting, site evaluations, and construction support, with potential hybrid flexibility based on experience and performance.
Responsibilities
- Prepare structural calculations, plans, and permit-ready drawing packages
- Design structural systems including foundations, framing, beams, posts, decks, balconies, and structural repair solutions
- Conduct site visits to gather field measurements and evaluate existing conditions
- Coordinate with contractors, project managers, inspectors, and local building departments
- Support permitting, plan-check corrections, and code compliance requirements
- Assist with projects from initial design through construction completion
- Ensure compliance with California Building Code (CBC)
Qualifications
- 1–5 years of structural engineering, structural design, or drafting experience
- Experience with residential or multi-family construction projects
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and construction drawing preparation
- Familiarity with structural calculations and construction documents
- Knowledge of wood framing, foundations, decks, balconies, or structural repairs
- Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Familiarity with California building codes and permitting processes
