POSITION SUMMARY
The Surveillance Observer safeguards what the casino owns by way of the gaming and security camera systems. The position watches the floor it does not work on, documents what it sees without embellishment, and escalates through the department rather than to the operation being observed.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Surveillance Operations
▪ Know the procedure behind every table game in detail.
▪ Send security to any area where an incident surfaces on camera.
▪ Verify that every piece of equipment functions when the shift opens, while it runs, and as it ends.
▪ Run the gaming surveillance cameras and the equipment supporting them.
▪ Run the security cameras and the equipment supporting them.
▪ Relay incident detail to pit personnel over the phone, briefly and with courtesy.
▪ Watch for advantage play, cheating, collusion, and internal theft, and follow the activity until the picture is complete.
▪ Contribute to the ongoing education of the department.
Documentation and Compliance
▪ Bring each incident seen during the shift to the Surveillance Manager.
▪ Produce written reports covering what was observed.
▪ Keep the log sheets current, the daily log among them, along with the tape log.
▪ Preserve recorded evidence and observe retention and chain of custody requirements.
▪ Treat all casino information as confidential.
▪ Understand and comply with Washington State gambling regulations and the internal control policies and procedures established by NGG.
▪ Hold and keep current a Washington State Gambling Commission card room employee license and any other credential the position requires.
Workplace Standards
▪ Report on time, in uniform, and ready for the shift.
▪ Keep the surveillance room secure and admit only authorized persons.
▪ Finish all assigned training, including compliance, safety, and refresher training.
▪ Use of a personal mobile device anywhere in the observation room or on the gaming floor is not permitted while on the clock; undivided attention to the job is expected throughout the shift.
▪ Carry out additional assignments as directed by management.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education, Experience, and Training
▪ High school completion or comparable experience.
▪ Prior gaming work as a dealer is preferred.
▪ Prior security or law enforcement work is preferred.
▪ Applicant must have reached the age of eighteen (18).
▪ Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
Specific Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities Required
▪ Hands-on understanding of cash handling practices, paired with knowledge of Washington State gambling regulations and rules.
▪ Table games experience.
▪ Fosters respect, dignity, and integrity among staff by modeling those qualities personally.
▪ Able to read and understand all documentation.
▪ Communicates clearly and consistently with guests and with team members at every level of the organization.
▪ Works well alongside colleagues and engages comfortably with members of the public.
▪ Presents a tidy, professional image and maintains sound personal grooming standards.
▪ Competent in the four basic mathematical operations across all units of measure, whether working in whole numbers, fractions, or decimals.
▪ Observes closely and recalls detail accurately across long stretches at the monitors.
▪ Writes clear, factual, complete incident reports without delay.
▪ Comfortable with digital video systems, retrieval, and archiving.
▪ Absolute discretion; keeps the room’s work separate from the floor.
▪ Works independently with limited direct supervision.
WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
The role is performed in a high-tempo casino setting. Extended periods of standing, walking, or sitting are required, as are speaking, hearing, writing, and fine finger and tactile manipulation. Lifting and carrying of up to thirty pounds (30 lbs.) is required, and heavier loads on occasion. Reaching with the hands and arms, climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling occur regularly, and the incumbent may be exposed to swings in temperature at either extreme.
The role is worked largely seated in a monitor room, calling for close visual acuity, color discrimination, and sustained visual concentration across the shift. The room is dimly lit and access to it is restricted. Schedules include nights, weekends, holidays, and rotating shifts based on business needs.
