Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Paralegal to join our Healthcare & General Liability Defense Group, focusing on medical malpractice defense.
This position requires exceptional clerical and organizational skills to support attorneys in all aspects of case management, including handling case files, coordinating discovery, organizing physical and digital records, and assisting with document preparation and trial support.
General Responsibilities
- Assist attorneys with all phases of litigation, from case intake through trial or settlement.
- Manage medical records for case files, including requesting and processing HIPAA Authorizations, cataloging records, and managing consistent follow-up.
- Prepare and serve notices and subpoenas for all required case documents.
- Coordinate with medical experts, including researching, corresponding, and scheduling expert witnesses and independent medical examinations.
- Prepare subpoenas and organize depositions for non-party witnesses.
- Assist in drafting legal documents and cataloging case correspondence.
- Prepare and maintain comprehensive case files and trial documents as needed.
Requirements
- Prior experience as a paralegal or legal assistant in medical malpractice or personal injury litigation.
- Demonstrated ability to draft legal documents and proficiency with relevant electronic filing systems and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent communication, writing, and organizational skills.
- Strong professional references.
Preferred Skills
- Certification from an accredited paralegal program.
- Experience working with medical experts, familiarity with medical terminology, or ability to interpret health records.
- Knowledge of HIPAA compliance and confidentiality standards.
- Proficiency with case management software (Clio, in particular).
- Extensive trial experience in the paralegal role.
