Position Summary:
The NDE Inspection Intern supports the NDE team by assisting with inspection activities that help ensure aircraft components and assemblies meet Piper's quality, engineering, and regulatory standards. This internship provides hands-on experience in aerospace manufacturing quality processes, exposure to non-destructive testing methods, and the opportunity to develop technical skills while working alongside experienced inspectors in a production environment. Under close supervision, the intern contributes to quality assurance efforts while gaining practical knowledge of inspection procedures, manufacturing specifications, and industry best practices.
Essential Job Functions
- Work from Engineering drawings, Material Review Boards dispositions, Piper Process Specifications (PPS), Piper Material Specifications (PMS), Purchase Specifications (PS), Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Regulations, Quality Assurance Manuals (QAM), various handbooks, travelers, engineering/tooling/rework orders, and written/verbal instructions.
- Ensure that only the latest approved applicable drawings, specifications, and instructions are used during inspection and testing.
- Perform First Part and Conformity inspections, as required.
- Accept/reject according to specifications.
- Examine defective parts to determine cause of defect and recommend change or modification.
- Note and report deviations from established specifications and initiate required documentation to effect corrections.
- Provide written report regarding inspection and testing results as required.
- Scrutinize every facet of job and report improper operation, faulty equipment, tooling fixtures, defective materials, and unusual conditions to Supervisor.
- Maintain accurate and detailed records, files, and reports of all inspections and test conducted.
- Requires the use of and ownership of basic tools and various hand tools as specified by departmental tool list.
- Perform housekeeping chores as department requirements dictate.
- Adhere, maintain, assist and train teammates within career path to all departmental compliance requirements such as Safety, Environmental Protection, FOD and Tool Control, 5S and other assigned programs.

Education and Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Associates Degree preferred.
- Requires the ability to learn specialized knowledge along with the ability to interpret drawings and/or blueprints.
- Basic understanding and application of mathematics such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals, geometry, shop math, and the use of handbook formulas to calculate dimensions, convert angular to linear dimensions, and solve similar shop problems are required.
- Demonstrates physical and functional ability to perform and accomplish tasks. Ability to lift and carry up to 35 lbs.
- Ability to foster collaborative relationships, to work well under pressure, to organize and synthesize new information, and prioritize tasks. Possesses critical thinking, analytical skills and flexibility. Ability to multi-task. Required detailed attention to work in an environment where interruptions need to be controlled. Demonstrates sensitivity to customer needs and expectations.

- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to both office and plant environments. May be exposed to odors, chemical agents, dust, fumes, gases, sharp objects, hazardous or moving equipment, wet slippery floors, and extremes in temperature and humidity.
- Interacts regularly with various staff and employees, and occasionally with vendors, suppliers, community members and regulatory agency representatives.
- Travel and overtime are required when necessary.
