Facilities Manager
Organization: Burritt on the Mountain

Position Type: Full-Time (40 hours per week)
Reports To: Chief Operations Officer
Position Summary
The Facilities Manager is responsible for the daily maintenance, preservation, landscaping and operational readiness of Burritt on the Mountain's buildings and nature trails. This position oversees maintenance staff, coordinates preventative maintenance, supports events and educational programming, and ensures that Burritt's facilities, grounds, infrastructure, and equipment remain safe, functional, and welcoming for visitors, staff, volunteers, and renters.
Working closely with the Chief Operations Officer (COO), the Facilities Manager implements operational priorities, manages routine maintenance projects, coordinates vendors and contractors, and helps preserve Burritt's buildings, grounds, and visitor experience. The Facilities Manager also plays a key role in preparing the campus for Burritt's many public programs, rentals, festivals, and special events. This position will communicate and work with a variety of stakeholders, staff, visitors, volunteers and contractors.
Essential Responsibilities
Facilities & Grounds
- Oversee the day-to-day maintenance and operation of all campus buildings, grounds, roads, parking areas, utilities, trails, and outdoor spaces, to include weeding, pruning, and removing fallen debris.
- Supervise maintenance staff and assign daily work priorities.
- Develop and implement preventative maintenance schedules for buildings, vehicles, equipment, and infrastructure.
- Ensure facilities remain clean, safe, attractive, and operational for visitors and staff.
- Perform routine inspections and identify maintenance needs before they become larger issues.
- Maintain maintenance records, work orders, and preventative maintenance schedules.
Historic Structures & Preservation Support
- Coordinate routine maintenance of Burritt's historic structures in partnership with the Chief Operations Officer.
- Assist with preservation projects while ensuring work follows appropriate preservation practices.
- Monitor historic buildings for maintenance concerns and communicate recommendations to the COO.
Equipment & Fleet
- Oversee maintenance of maintenance equipment, utility vehicles, mowers, trailers, HVAC systems, generators, and other operational equipment.
- Maintain inventory of tools and equipment.
- Coordinate repairs with outside vendors when necessary.
Vendor & Contractor Coordination
- Coordinate and oversee contractors performing maintenance or repair work on campus.
- Obtain estimates and assist the COO with maintenance and capital project planning.
- Monitor contractor performance and ensure projects are completed according to specifications.
Safety & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with OSHA standards and Burritt safety policies.
- Coordinate required inspections, permits, preventative maintenance, and life safety testing.
- Maintain emergency preparedness equipment and supplies.
- Respond to facility emergencies as needed.
Event & Program Support
- Coordinate and execute facility setup and breakdown for rentals, public events, educational programs, concerts, festivals, and special events.
- Ensure event spaces are clean, safe, properly equipped, and ready prior to guest arrival.
- Interact with Rentals, Museum Education, Public Programs, Visitor Services departments to meet operational needs.
- Assist with after-hours operational support during events as needed.
- Participate in weekend and evening event setup, breakdown, and on-site support as required.
Budget & Inventory
- Monitor maintenance supply inventory and recommend purchases.
- Purchase maintenance materials within approved budget guidelines.
- Assist the COO with annual facilities budget planning and capital improvement priorities.
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance expenditures.
Volunteer Coordination
- Work with the Volunteer & Membership Coordinator to organize volunteers for facility improvement projects.
- Supervise volunteer work assignments related to maintenance and grounds.
Other Duties
- Participate in storm preparation, emergency response, and campus recovery efforts.
- Assist with campus improvement and beautification projects.
- Support organizational initiatives as assigned.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required; technical certification, vocational training, or associate degree in facilities management, construction, HVAC, electrical, plumbing, or a related field preferred.
- Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
- Minimum of five (5) years of facilities, maintenance, construction, or grounds management experience.
- Previous supervisory experience preferred.
- Working knowledge of building systems, preventative maintenance, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, carpentry, and grounds maintenance.
- Ability to safely operate maintenance equipment, utility vehicles, and power tools.
- Strong organizational, planning, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to read, write and communicate the English language when necessary for safe and efficient job performance.
- Ability to prioritize multiple projects while maintaining attention to detail.

- Ability to demonstrate hospitality to guests, staff, volunteers, contractors, and vendors.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb ladders, and work on uneven terrain for extended periods.
- Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.

Working Conditions
This position is generally performed during normal operating hours Monday through Friday. Because Burritt on the Mountain hosts rentals, concerts, educational programs, festivals, and special events throughout the year, the Facilities Manager must be available to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed to support event setup, operations, breakdown, emergency response, and facility needs.
The position requires a valid driver's license, reliable transportation, and the successful completion of a background check.
