After-school Counselor Job Functions: Responsible for supervision of the children and assisting in the afternoon or all-day camp scheduled activities under the supervision of the school age director. Responsible for providing age- appropriate games and activities. Arrive on time and prepared to work. Hands on and involved at all times. Ensure and assist in maintaining a safe and clean environment. Assist with end of day cleaning duties and other duties as needed.
Job Requirements:
- Must be at least 25 years old with a valid NC drivers license.
- Approximate 15 hours (1:30-5:30) a week part-time position but opportunity to sub as much as 25 hours a week plus additional opportunity for scheduled all day camp days 7-5:30.
Duties
- Supervise children during after-school hours, ensuring their safety and well-being at all times
- Maintain a positive and constructive interaction with children and parents at all times.
- Plan and facilitate a variety of educational, recreational, and creative activities tailored to different age groups.
- Manage classroom behavior using effective behavior management techniques and positive reinforcement strategies
- Assist with homework help, tutoring, or academic support to promote childhood development and learning
- Implement first aid protocols when necessary, including CPR and AED operation, to respond promptly to emergencies
- Collaborate with parents, teachers, and staff to support each child's individual needs, including those requiring special education or behavioral support
- Maintain a clean, organized environment that encourages participation and safety in all activitiesExperience
- Prior experience working with children in settings such as daycare centers, camps, tutoring programs, or youth organizations is highly preferred
- Demonstrated classroom management skills with the ability to handle diverse behaviors effectively
- Certification in first aid, CPR, AED operation, or willingness to obtain these certifications upon hire
- Strong communication skills with the ability to connect positively with children of various ages and backgrounds
