POSITION TITLE: Head eSports Coach, Burke HS
MINIMUM EMPLOYMENT QUALIFICATIONS
Must possess a valid NE Teaching Certificate or NE Administrative and Supervisory Certificate or a NE Special Services Certificate endorsed in coaching.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Knowledge and skill of personal and gaming computers, software packages and equipment.
- Demonstrated knowledge of eSports programming; preferred experience with the PlayVS platform, PC-based gaming, and fundamental knowledge and skill of eSports techniques
- Ability to demonstrate eSports gaming techniques
- Demonstrated abilities to work effectively and collaboratively with coaching staff, building administration and young adults
- Bachelor's degree, with emphasis in Education preferred
- Current or prospective employment as a teacher in the Omaha Public Schools and the identified site preferred
- Individual must be able to meet Nebraska School Activities Association guidelines, which include Nebraska Teaching Certificate and/or Special Services Certificate with endorsement in coaching.
- The coach must exhibit high standards of professional ethics and conduct
RESPONSIBILITIES
The Head eSports Coach has the responsibility for leading the building’s eSports program in a manner that serves the best interests of the school district and of the student athletes who participate at any level in that program. This year-round, part-time coaching assignment will be responsible for all aspects of our eSports program, including developing, recruiting, training, scheduling and coaching the High School team at practices and competitions. The head coach works cooperatively with the administrators of the school to assure that the activities related to the program are consistent with building needs and practices as well as the rules identified by Omaha Public Schools, PlayVS, Metropolitan High School Activities Association and the Nebraska School Activities Association. The head coach assures that all program staff and participating students adhere to the Policies and Regulations and the Practices and Procedures of the Board of Education.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities
- Ensures the safety and well-being of all student participants.
- Attends practices and competitive events consistently, demonstrating punctual arrival.
- Supports and applies approved expectations for learning and classroom performance as a condition for participation in athletics. Monitors and supports students’ academic performance to ensure success.
- Sets and maintains high expectations for the conduct of student athletes, supervising students to assure that all conduct presents the school and the school district in a positive manner.
- Supports and applies the varsity head coach’s plan for teaching and encouraging appropriate student behavior including possible consequences for unacceptable behavior. Assures that the plan is used to support the development of the student athletes and to promote the success of the athletics program.
- Supports and teaches the athletics program designed by the varsity head coach, enhancing the development of skills and encouraging team play during instruction, practice, and competitive events.
- Gathers accurate information regarding eligibility of student athletes and provides it to the varsity head coach in a timely manner. Supports the letter and the spirit of eligibility criteria as determined by the school and the district, as well as local and state governing bodies.
- Participates in district-approved activities with elementary and middle school aged students at the request of the varsity head coach.
- Communicates effectively with students, staff, and parents.
- Communicates with the varsity head coach regarding important changes, problems or developments potentially affecting the athletics program or the school.
- Works cooperatively with all coaches and officials to provide the best possible experience for student-athletes and fans.
- Supports and contributes to the success of the entire athletics program by encouraging student participation and support for all programs and assisting other programs whenever possible.
- Communicates with building administrators regarding important changes, problems or developments potentially affecting the athletics program or the school.

Program Leadership
- Successfully organizes, manages and coordinates the eSports program within the realm of PlayVS governance, including a pre-season, Fall Competitive Season and Spring Competitive Season.
- Identifies and recruits participants for eSports teams. Identifies strengths and weaknesses of players and develops strategies enabling teams to compete for eSports Championships.
- Provides guidance and input on team and game title selection within the realm of PlayVS offerings as identified by the District’s Athletic Supervisor.
- Coordinates practices, on and off-season camps, clinics, promotional events and competition schedules.
- Maintains a safe environment for participants and utilizes appropriate training methods to minimize injury by taking appropriate safety precautions during practices and matches.
- Coordinates the care, maintenance and use of all eSports equipment and supplies in line with district policies for procurement and use. Completes annual inventory, issues and checks out equipment, marks equipment for identification and storage. Requests purchase of needed equipment and supplies as needed and makes recommendations for facility improvements as necessary and appropriate.
- Supervises the athletics program in the specified sport at all levels of competition offered by the school, ensuring the safety and well being of all student participants.
- Sets and maintains appropriately high expectations for learning and classroom performance as a condition for participation in activities. Assures that students’ academic performance is monitored and supported to ensure success.
- Sets and maintains high behavioral expectations for student athletes and staff who participate in the program, assuring that all conduct presents the school and the school district in a positive manner. Supports the values of competitive sports including hospitality, sportsmanship, and fair play.
- Develops and communicates an administratively approved plan for teaching and supporting appropriate student behavior including possible consequences for unacceptable behavior. Assures that the plan is implemented consistently and fairly to support the development of the student athletes and promote the success of the athletics program.
- Develops and implements a cohesive program in the eSports that teaches skills and promotes team play of all program participants through instruction, practice, and competitive events.
- Implements and supports the letter and the spirit of eligibility criteria for the participation of student athletes as determined by the school and the district, as well as those of PlayVS, the Metropolitan High School Activities Association and the Nebraska School Activities Association.
- Promotes the athletics program through district-approved activities with elementary and middle school aged students. These activities are offered in order to enhance the development of skills and knowledge of the sport in young children.
- Assists student athletes who wish to pursue higher education and are capable of participating in eSports beyond the high school level with understanding opportunities, pursuing scholarships and financial support, and selecting appropriate options.
Communicates effectively with students, staff, parents, and the public. Follows district guidelines in communicating with the media.
Program Administration
- Oversees the safety conditions of the facility and reports concerns immediately to the appropriate authority.
- Establishes and maintains an inventory of equipment used in the athletics program and is accountable for the condition and return of all equipment. Monitors program needs and recommends replacement of equipment, supplies, and uniforms in advance of need when possible.
- Obtains required documentation regarding student eligibility for participation in interscholastic athletics.
- Assures that reliable data regarding individual and team performances are maintained and reported in a timely manner.
- Maintains records regarding financial expenditures and reimbursements and submits required reports in a timely manner.
- Submits an end-of-season report reporting required data and evaluating the success of the program including recommendations for its improvement
