POSITION SUMMARY
We are seeking a driven and experienced Southbound Dispatcher to join our growing fleet operations team. In this role, you will serve as one of the primary negotiators on behalf of our company, working to maximize capture rate on southbound freight while strategically pairing loads to marry northbound lanes across our 100-truck fleet. The ideal candidate combines strong freight market knowledge with sharp negotiation skills and a commitment to operational efficiency.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Negotiate freight rates and terms on behalf of the company to maximize southbound capture rate across all lanes.
- Actively identify and secure northbound backhaul loads to marry southbound dispatches, minimizing deadhead miles.
- Coordinate daily dispatch operations for a fleet of 125 trucks, ensuring on-time pickups and deliveries.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with brokers, and shippers to secure preferred freight.
- Monitor load boards and market conditions to identify high-value opportunities and act quickly.
- Communicate proactively with driver managers regarding assignments, route changes, and scheduling updates.
- Collaborate with operations and planning teams to align dispatch strategy with company goals.
- Resolve freight issues, delays, and exceptions with urgency and professionalism.
- Maintain accurate records in the TMS (Transportation Management System) and dispatch logs.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum 2+ years of experience in freight dispatch, brokerage, or transportation operations.
- Proven track record of freight rate negotiation with measurable results.
- Solid understanding of southbound and northbound lane dynamics and freight market trends.
- Proficiency with load boards (DAT, Truckstop.com) and TMS platforms.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills; confident negotiator.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
- High attention to detail with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience managing or dispatching a fleet of 50+ trucks.
- Familiarity with dry van market.
- Working knowledge of Hours of Service (HOS) regulations and DOT compliance.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a must.
