At Topeka Rescue Mission, a meal is more than food—it’s hope, dignity, and an expression of God’s love. We’re looking for a passionate and servant-hearted Sous Chef to help lead our kitchen team in preparing high-quality, nourishing meals for our guests and community members.
What You’ll Do:
- Lead the preparation and execution of daily meal service.
- Ensure meals are nutritious, safe, and served with dignity.
- Supervise and encourage kitchen volunteers and assistants, many of whom may be community members, church partners, or individuals in recovery.
- Support creative meal planning using available donations and resources.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and welcoming kitchen.
- Safely handle, store, and track food inventory.
- Promote a spirit of hospitality and Christ-centered service in all you do.
What We’re Looking For:
- 2+ years of experience in food service or culinary operations.
- Ability to supervise and motivate a diverse team.
- Knowledge of food safety standards (ServSafe preferred).
- Strong communication and people skills, with a heart for ministry.
- Comfort working with individuals experiencing homelessness, addiction, or trauma.
- Physical ability to stand, bend, lift up to 40 lbs, and thrive in a fast-paced kitchen.
- A mature Christian faith and willingness to participate in the spiritual mission of TRM.
- Valid KS Driver’s License; ServSafe certification (or willingness to obtain).
