Job Role: The Field Insulator installs various types of pipe insulation and jacketing materials to protect mechanical systems and improve energy efficiency. This role works on active construction job sites, using hand and power tools to install insulation according to technical specifications. Travel is required.
Key Duties:
- Measure, cut, and install pipe insulation for various piping sizes and systems
- Apply vapor barriers, vapor dams, and secure jacketing (aluminum or PVC)
- Operate tools such as bending brakes, band saws, and banding tools
- Fabricate insulation kits for valves, fittings, and rotating equipment
- Follow installation drawings, specifications, and site safety requirements
Requirements:
- Minimum 2 years of experience in industrial pipe insulation
- Proficient with installation of aluminum and/or PVC jacketing
- Understanding of insulation materials and moisture barrier systems
- Ability to read insulation schematics and technical documentation
- Must pass pre-employment background check and drug screening
- No DUIs within the past 5 years
- Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel extensively (10-day tours with 10–12 hour shifts)
- Able to work in extreme temperatures while wearing full PPE
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds regularly, and up to 75 pounds occasionally
- Ability to stand, bend, crouch, and kneel for extended periods of time
- Must be able to work at heights, in confined spaces, and in varying conditions (heat, cold, dust, noise)
- Must have the physical stamina to perform repetitive motions and remain on feet for most of the shift
- Manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination sufficient to operate tools accurately and safely
Preferences:
- Experience fabricating or modifying insulation blankets and jackets
- Familiarity with industry-standard insulation craftsmanship practices
