Job Title: Community Engagement Manager
Classification: Full-Time/Exempt
Reports To: Executive Director
New Mexico Kids Matter advocates for children who have been abused or neglected by training and supervising individuals to become Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASAs). CASAs are specially trained, usually volunteers, and are appointed by a Judge to the case of a child or sibling group who has/have been abused or neglected. Their role is to advocate in Court on behalf of the Child’s best interest.
Essential Responsibilities & Duties:
Essential functions and responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to, volunteer recruitment and retention, communication and public relations (including social media management and media relations), marketing, and donor development.
- Create, implement, evaluate, and supervise volunteer recruitment initiatives for NM Kids Matter including events, communications, and marketing.
- Develop new opportunities and relationships with community partners that increase awareness, volunteers, and resources for NM Kids Matter.
- Participate in and supervise community networking events that generate referrals, build a positive image, and keep NM Kids Matter at the top of the community's minds.
- Ensure that a record of all presentations and outreach activities (organization-wide) is completed to establish demographics and evaluate effectiveness. Collect information, files, and statistics regarding volunteer recruitment activities.
- Collaborate with the NMKM Training Manager, and other staff as appropriate, to assist prospective volunteers in successfully transitioning into their volunteer roles.
- Coordinate the development and implementation of annual strategic plans for CASA volunteer recruitment and community relations.
- Develop and implement comprehensive donor cultivation and stewardship strategies to build, strengthen, and sustain relationships with individual, corporate, and community donors
- Identify, research, and qualify prospective donors, creating personalized engagement plans that align donor interests with the organization's mission and funding priorities
- Coordinate donor communications, including personalized outreach, impact reports, recognition activities, and stewardship events to enhance donor retention and increase giving
- Collaborate with executive leadership to prepare cultivation materials, schedule donor meetings, and support major gift solicitation efforts
- Maintain accurate donor records in the organization's donor database, track cultivation activities, analyze giving trends, and generate reports to inform fundraising strategies and measure donor engagement
- Coordinate the creation and distribution of NM Kids Matter press materials (press releases, statements, op-eds, talking points, public service announcements, feature articles, radio spots, community calendar notices, and advertisements) and work with staff to define NM Kids Matter positions in materials for the media.
- Serve as NM Kids Matter’s primary media contact, working closely with the Executive Director for all media requests, communications, and relationships.
- Oversee the creation, dissemination, and supply of NMKM information to the media, policymakers, corporations, associations, the general public, etc.
- Plan and coordinate all NMKM events, including the annual back to school event, holiday event, quarterly volunteer open houses, and fundraising events.
- Coordinate publicity and develop PR plans for special events.
- Coordinate paid advertising and track and maintain records on all in-kind (non-paid) advertising.
- Coordinate & maintain documentation of community donation projects (i.e., holiday gifts, back-to-school items, graduation baskets, blankets, etc.).
- Manages the volunteer recognition and retention program.
- Produce and manage donor correspondence, including annual campaign appeals
- Maintain detailed records of all donor contact, history and relationship management; ensures timely and personal appreciation and recognition is completed
- Develop and maintain a successful monthly giving program
- Manages the donor recognition and stewardship program, including updating organization policies and procedures
- Supports the Executive Director with recognition and stewardship for major gift donors
- Cultivate and serve as main contact for organizations and community groups that are hosting third-party fundraising activities that benefit NMKM.
- Follow up on events and community activities to cultivate NMKM’s relationship with potential donors and volunteers.
- Develop and enhance promotion and recognition tools aimed at individual donors (website, print pieces, email content, story/pic/video library, frames)

Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
- College degree in a related area preferred or three years of relevant work experience required.
- At least one year of experience in marketing, event planning, donor development, or volunteer recruitment/management is required.
- Ability to establish best practices and operational efficiency.
- Ability to communicate in a clear and concise manner, both written and oral.
- Ability to remain calm and make objective decisions during extremely stressful situations.
- Have the ability to function independently using judgement, ingenuity and initiative and work cooperatively as a team member.
- Familiarity with fundraising practices including IRS regulations related to gift acceptance, valuation, and 501c3 operational requirements is preferred.
- Relationship builder with the flexibility and finesse to “manage by influence”.
- High energy, maturity, and leadership with the ability to serve as unifying force and to position communication discussions at both strategic and tactical levels.
- Sincere commitment to work collaboratively with all constituent groups, including staff, board members, volunteers, donors, program participants, and other supporters.
- Self-starter, able to work independently, and entrepreneurial; enjoys creating and implementing new initiatives.
- Must exercise a high degree of professional discretion when handling sensitive or confidential information or records.
- Ability to work in a trauma-informed environment; experience in community services a plus.
- Possess a valid New Mexico State Driver’s License to be verified annually.
- Must be able to successfully pass a national criminal, FBI fingerprint, CYFD abuse & neglect search, and a Sexual Abuse Registry check.
- Bilingual (English & Spanish) is preferred.
Preferred Qualifications:
- A minimum of a bachelor’s degree is preferred. In lieu of a degree, significant professional, relevant experience may be considered.
- Experience with nonprofit CRMs
- Understanding of child welfare or social services processes or agencies a plus
- Professional communication and presentation skills, both verbal and written
- Self-starter, motivated to fulfill our mission with a commitment to excellence
Physical Requirements and Work Environment
The Community Engagement Manager will be expected to have dependable daily transportation to attend staff meetings and events as needed. This position will work in the office and at events that may involve physical activities such as lifting, bending, reaching, sitting, standing, and walking. Additionally, the person may spend several hours sitting at a computer daily. Reasonable accommodation may be provided to enable a person with disabilities to do the job.
This position is hybrid/remote, and specific in-office requirements will be determined based on experience and the needs of the organization.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $60,000.00 per year
