Position Type: Classified (Paraprofessional)
Work Schedule: School year; hours determined by assignment
Reports To: Building Principal
To assist teachers in providing a high-quality music education program that fosters an appreciation of music while helping students develop musical knowledge, performance skills, creativity, and confidence. Under the supervision of the teachers and building administrator, the paraprofessional supports classroom instruction, student supervision, music performances, and program operations while contributing to the district's written, taught, tested, and reported curriculum and maximizing student achievement.
Qualifications
Required:

Demonstrated interest in or knowledge of music, music performance, or music education.

Ability to assist with basic music instruction under the direction of a licensed teacher.

Ability to organize instructional materials, performances, and classroom activities.

Ability to work effectively with students, staff, families, and the public.

Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.

Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
Highly Qualified Requirement (ESSA):
Candidates must meet federal and state paraprofessional qualification requirements by possessing an associate degree or higher, completing two years of postsecondary education, or successfully completing the ParaPro Assessment.
Preferred:

Experience working with children in a school or youth setting.

Experience in music, choir, band, orchestra, or other performing arts.

Experience supporting students with diverse learning needs.

Ability to collaborate effectively as part of a team.
Instructional Support
Assist the teachers in delivering classroom instruction, rehearsals, and small-group activities.
Reinforce music concepts, including melody, harmony, rhythm, form, music reading, and performance techniques under the direction of the teacher.
Support students individually or in small groups during music instruction and practice.
Assist with preparing instructional materials, instruments, equipment, and classroom resources.
Support implementation of accommodations and modifications for students as directed by the teacher.
Classroom and Program Support
Assist with organizing rehearsals, performances, concerts, assemblies, and other music-related events.
Help maintain music classrooms, instruments, equipment, sheet music, and instructional materials.
Assist with classroom setup, organization, inventory, and general program management.
Provide supervision of students during rehearsals, performances, field trips, and other school activities as assigned.
Student Support
Encourage student participation, confidence, creativity, and appreciation for music.
Support positive student behavior using district-approved strategies.
Assist students with organization, transitions, and task completion.
Collect observational or instructional data as requested by the supervising teacher.
Collaboration
Work collaboratively with the licensed music teacher, classroom teachers, administrators, and other staff to support student learning.
Assist with coordinating music activities that support classroom instruction and school events.
Participate in staff meetings, professional development, and district training as assigned.
Professional Responsibilities
Maintain confidentiality of student and staff information in accordance with FERPA and district policy.
Follow district policies, procedures, and professional expectations.
Maintain regular and predictable attendance.
Perform other duties as assigned that are consistent with the responsibilities of a classified music paraprofessional.
While performing the duties of this position, the employee may be required to stand, walk, sit, bend, or kneel for extended periods and assist with student supervision or mobility consistent with assigned duties.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
This position shall be considered in all respects “employment at will”. The “employment period” and other descriptions and terms set forth in this job description shall not create a property right for the employee. These are set forth only to advise the employee of when and what type of services will be required by the district, so long as the employment continues.
