Position: Technical Writer – Information Security Documentation Consultant
Client: Mississippi Department of Human Services (MDHS)
Location: Jackson, Mississippi (As per client requirement)
Employment Type: Contract
The client is seeking an experienced Technical Writer with a strong background in cybersecurity and IT governance documentation. The selected consultant will be responsible for developing, revising, and maintaining information security governance documentation while ensuring compliance with industry security frameworks and organizational standards.
- Develop, revise, and maintain information security policies.
- Create technical standards supporting approved security policies.
- Develop operational procedures, implementation guides, and security documentation.
- Create security baselines and configuration documentation.
- Prepare governance and compliance documentation that is technically accurate, consistent, complete, and enforceable.
- Recommend improvements to documentation structure and governance processes.
- Produce clear, well-organized documentation for technical teams, management, auditors, and external stakeholders.
- Collaborate with security subject matter experts to document security processes and required controls.
- Maintain document version control and support periodic document reviews.
- Strong experience in technical writing related to cybersecurity or IT governance.
- Hands-on experience developing security policies, standards, procedures, and governance documentation.
- Knowledge of multiple cybersecurity frameworks and standards, including:
- NIST Cybersecurity Framework (CSF)
- NIST SP 800-53
- IRS Publication 1075
- CIS Critical Security Controls
- Experience with one or more of the following security domains:
- Security Governance & Risk Management
- Identity & Access Management (IAM)
- Incident Response
- Vulnerability Management
- Disaster Recovery & Business Continuity
- Vendor Risk Management
- Security Awareness & Training
- Policy Lifecycle Management
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to produce high-quality technical documentation.
- Experience creating documentation aligned with NIST CSF, NIST SP 800-53, and IRS Publication 1075.
- Professional security certifications such as:
- CISSP
- CISA
- CGRC
- Security+
- Or equivalent certifications
