SECC Teacher Job Description
Solomike Early Childhood Center (SECC) at Temple B’nai Torah is a Jewish, Reggio Emilia–inspired early learning community serving children ages 6 weeks to 6 years. - Environment Care: Maintain clean, safe classrooms, playgrounds, and common spaces.
- Communication: Communicate constructively with students, staff, and families.
- Participation: Attend weekly team meetings, monthly staff meetings, quarterly in-service days, and occasional center events.
- Health & Safety: Prioritize student health needs, including allergies, medical plans, and food intolerances.
- Technology & Documentation: Utilize BrightWheel and complete required classroom paperwork promptly.
- Flexibility: Perform additional duties as needed.
Position Details
- Status: Non-exempt; part-time, eligible for overtime
- Minimum Hours: On-call/substitute teachers can have the option to have a minimum of 5 hours scheduled per week. Otherwise, hours are subject to change depending on staffing needs of the center.
- Work Schedule: Monday–Friday, 7:00 a.m.–6:00 p.m. (Available times to work will fall in these hours)
- Reporting: Reports to SECC Leadership Team and Director
- Hourly Pay: $23–$28 per hour, commensurate with experience.Job Requirements
Education
- High School Diploma or GED, required
- Initial Certificate (12 credits), expected within 5 years
- Bachelor’s degree in early childhood education or related field, preferred
Experience
- At least 2 years of classroom experience in early childcare, highly preferred
- Experience in Reggio Emilia–inspired environments, highly preferred
Pre-Onboarding Requirements
· Ability to pass a Portable Background Check
· Negative TB Test (within the last 12 months)
· COVID & MMR Vaccines
· Childcare Basics: STARS 30 Hours
· DCYF Trainings
· Pediatric through Adult CPR/First Aid/ AED
· Bloodborne Pathogens (BBP)
· Food Workers Card
Physical & Other Requirements
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to document children’s work through various media
- Ability to pass a background check
- Compliance with state, federal, and SECC guidelines regarding immunizations and health safety training
- Physical and mental alertness with appropriate energy levels to perform essential job functions
- Full range of motion to lift, reach, squat, climb, sit, and participate in activities
- Ability to frequently lift, move, or hold children up to 40 pounds (occasionally more)
- COVID-19 vaccination up to date

- This is an on-call/substitute position. Hours are subject to change based on staffing needs of the center. We can offer 5 hours a week guaranteed if the candidate would like to request this. What times during the week are you available? We are open Monday-Friday, 7 am-6 pm.
