Summary:
Under direct supervision, answers all incoming 911 emergency and non-emergency police and medical calls. Input information in a Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system for law enforcement response and documentation. Radio dispatching of law enforcement personnel; access to criminal justice information that requires handling and dissemination of sensitive materials; directs callers and gives non-emergency information, enters information into criminal justice information systems; and performs related duties as assigned.
This position requires shift work in a team environment that can be highly stressful and is a 24 hours/7 days per week operation; including weekends, evenings, nights and holidays. Work periods may have rotating days off and overtime with or without advance notice. Can be required to be held over for local emergencies, special events and natural disasters. May also be required to be on a standby status.
Salary
$26.22 Hourly - Pay grade 54
Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED (education will be verified using the “education Requirements” listed below) and one (1) year of customer service experience or completion of Public Safety Telecommunications course, or any equivalent combination of training and experience. Never been convicted of a felony or a misdemeanor involving perjury, false statement, moral turpitude, or domestic violence.
State of Florida 911 Public Safety Telecommunicator Certification, FCIC/NCIC operation certification, 911-TDD certification FEMA certifications are required or the ability to obtain such certifications within twelve (12) months from the date of hire.
CDE online or classroom within the 2nd year to include but not limited to Customer Service in Today’s Public Safety Communications (APCO), Surviving Stress (APCO), General Illuminations (APCO), Setting Goals: A Goal without a plan is just a wish (APCO) and any training as determine by Management.
Recertification's or refresher of courses are required.
A current and valid Florida driver’s license or State of Florida Identification Card is required. A current and valid driver’s license or Identification Card from any state may be utilized during the application process, with the ability to obtain the State of Florida driver’s license or Identification Card before the first day of employment.
Highly desirable skills: Radio dispatching experience in law enforcement. Ability to work in a fast-paced, stressful environment. Previous experience with shift work. Bi-lingual in Creole or Spanish.

The selection process for this position may consist of any, all or a combination of the following tests:
- Evaluation of training and experience (minimum qualifications).
- Pre-background criminal record evaluation.
- CritiCall test examination and typing test (25 WPM) - notified via email. Testing dates and times TBD.
- Mandatory orientation.
- Passing of oral interview/fingerprints.
- Truth Verification Exam.
- Background/criminal record evaluation.
- Mandatory Two hour observation in dispatch center.
- Passing of physical/drug/alcohol screening.

State of Emergency: When normal operations of City departments are suspended or interrupted due to a declaration by the Mayor that a state of emergency exists, all employees will be deemed critical by the City. For the preparation and/or continuation of emergency operations or for special work detail, employees deemed necessary shall be required to work. Employees deemed critical by the City but not needed for the initial preparation and/or continuation of emergency operations or for special work detail may be directed not to report to work, and given paid administrative leave or they may be reassigned to another location that best meet the needs of the City.
