Instructional Assistant- LEARN Classroom
Mechanicsburg Area School District is seeking an Instructional Assistant in the LEARN classroom at the High School for the 2026/2027 school year (starting August 11, 2026). This is a full-time, school-year position that plays an important role in supporting students’ academic, behavioral, and social-emotional growth within an alternative education setting. JOB SUMMARY: The Instructional Assistant provides instructional and student support under the direction of classroom teachers and building administration. Responsibilities include assisting with the implementation of individualized learning activities, reinforcing academic skills and concepts introduced by the teacher, and supporting students through one-on-one and small-group instruction. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with teachers and support staff to help create a positive, structured, and engaging learning environment that promotes student success.
QUALIFICATIONS: This position requires the ability to build meaningful, positive relationships with students and provide consistent support that encourages personal growth, accountability, and academic progress. The Instructional Assistant will assist in creating a classroom environment grounded in respect, trust, and restorative practices, helping students develop self-awareness, problem-solving skills, and strategies for navigating challenges. The role includes supporting students with behavioral needs through proactive approaches, positive reinforcement, clear expectations, and collaborative problem-solving. The Instructional Assistant will help students develop independence, responsibility, and confidence while supporting classroom routines, transitions, and daily learning activities. Additional responsibilities may include monitoring student progress, providing academic support, assisting with classroom organization, supervising students, maintaining records, and completing clerical or administrative tasks as assigned.
High School graduate with general typing ability and computer skills. Experience working with children in an instructional setting preferred. Strong interpersonal skills required. Chapter 14 requires that all special education instructional assistants and personal care assistants must meet one of the following qualifications: (1) have completed at least two years of postsecondary study, (2) possess an associates degree or higher, OR (3) complete an assessment that is provided.
Any individual who is to be considered for employment must provide school district officials with a valid Criminal History Record Clearance form, a valid Child Abuse History Clearance form, FBI Clearance, Act 168 form(s), and an I-9 (Employment Eligibility Verification).
