We are seeking a detail-oriented and safety-focused Fireproofing Technician to join our Guardian Firestop Solutions team. This role is responsible for installing spray-applied fire-resistive materials (SFRM), intumescent fireproofing coatings, and other passive fire protection systems in accordance with construction drawings, building codes, manufacturer specifications, and project requirements to achieve the required fire-resistance ratings for structural building components in commercial, industrial, and institutional construction projects.
The position will have potential travel to job sites nationwide, although primarily serving job sites throughout Missouri and Illinois initially.

Responsibilities Include:
- Apply spray-applied fire-resistive materials (SFRM), intumescent coatings, cementitious fireproofing, and other fireproofing systems according to project specifications and manufacturer requirements.
- Interpret blueprints, construction drawings, and fireproofing specifications to determine application areas, thickness requirements, and fire-resistance ratings.
- Prepare structural steel, decking, concrete, and other substrates by cleaning, masking, and protecting surrounding surfaces before application.
- Operate and maintain fireproofing spray pumps, mixers, hoses, compressors, and related application equipment safely and efficiently.
- Measure and verify fireproofing thickness using approved gauges to ensure compliance with project specifications and applicable codes.
- Maintain compliance with local, state, and federal fire codes and safety regulations.
- Work closely with project managers, inspectors, and other trades to ensure quality installations.
- Document completed fireproofing installations, including material quantities, thickness measurements, inspection reports, and project progress.
- Safely operate hand tools, power tools, spray equipment, lifts, and scaffolding required for fireproofing applications.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area, ensuring proper handling of fireproofing materials, equipment, and tools.
- Participate in safety meetings and adhere to all company safety protocols.
- Work in all weather conditions.
- Perform tasks at heights such as ladders, scaffolding, aerial lifts, and elevated structural steel.
- Enter tight or confined spaces, such as crawl spaces, mechanical rooms, and other construction environments.
Experience:
Required:
- 1+ years of construction, insulation, fireproofing, plastering, concrete, painting/coatings, or related industrial application experience.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and fireproofing specifications.
- Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety.
- Willingness and ability to travel extensively throughout the U.S. for project assignments.
- Valid driver's license, acceptable driving record, and reliable transportation.
- Strong work ethic, reliability, and attention to detail.
- Must pass a background check and drug screen in accordance with customer requirements.
Preferred:
- Experience applying spray-applied fire-resistive materials (SFRM) or intumescent fireproofing coatings.
- Knowledge of ASTM testing standards, UL fire-resistance assemblies, and IBC fire-resistance requirements.
- Experience operating fireproofing spray equipment and performing thickness testing.
- Experience working in commercial high-rise buildings, hospitals, data centers, manufacturing facilities, or other large-scale construction projects.
- Familiarity with Isolatek, Carboline, GCP, Sherwin-Williams, or other major fireproofing manufacturers.
