Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Grossing Technician to join our laboratory team. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in preparing and processing tissue specimens for microscopic examination. This position requires a strong understanding of pathology, anatomy, and laboratory procedures to ensure accurate results that contribute to patient care.
Responsibilities
- Receives and verifies patient information on all paperwork & specimen containers for accuracy.
- Prints labeled tissue cassettes, update and edits LIS, and prepares specimens for send-out testing.
- Performs all technical aspects of grossing and dictating surgical specimens using a variety of laboratory materials and equipment as training allows.
- Maintains cassettes accuracy, slide filing, laboratory records, pathology equipment and logs.
- Communicates with pathologist, peers, internal and external clients.
- Assists management with orientation and training of new hire employees.
- Assists with supply ordering and inventory.
- Maintains cleanliness of gross room.
- Maintains supplies and overall cleanliness of gross room.
- Assists in the tissue processing area.
- Labels chemical waste containers and appropriately discard chemical waste in accordance with all local, state, and federal guidelines.
- Participates in Quality Assurance (QA) Reviews.
- Assists with laboratory accreditation inspection preparations.
- Must observe and follow all rules, requirements, and regulations.
Requirements
- Knowledge of pathology, anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology is essential.
- Experience in specimen collection processing and clinical laboratory procedures is preferred.
- Proficiency in laboratory techniques related to grossing and histology is highly desirable..
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
- Excellent organizational skills and the capacity to manage multiple tasks effectively.
- A commitment to maintaining patient confidentiality and adhering to ethical standards in all aspects of work.
