About Untill
Untill is an indoor agriculture company operating a highly automated vertical farm. We grow leafy greens in a controlled environment and supply distributors with consistent, high-quality product. As we scale operations, we are strengthening our on-farm team to support uptime, food safety, harvest execution, and operational excellence.
Role Overview
The Team Lead, Farm Maintenance owns the reliability of the farm's mechanical, electrical, and irrigation systems and leads the technicians who maintain them. This is a working lead role — you'll be on the tools alongside your team, but you're also accountable for the preventative maintenance program, ops-day execution, and the technical development of the people on your team.
Key Responsibilities
- Own and continuously improve the preventative maintenance program across farm equipment and facility systems, using MaintainX to track work orders, schedules, and history.
- Lead troubleshooting and repair on mechanical, plumbing, and electrical issues, escalating or coordinating outside vendors when needed.
- Directly supervise and develop maintenance technicians — assign work, review quality, and build technical skill on the team.
- Oversee equipment installation, upgrades, and support future farm buildouts (new growth structures/towers).
- Ensure the automated harvester and related equipment run reliably on operations days (Tuesday/Friday), troubleshooting mechanical and automation issues as they arise.
- Partner with Food Safety on sanitation standards, GMP compliance, and audit readiness (MDAR CQP GAP).
- Maintain accurate maintenance documentation, spare parts inventory, and SOPs.
- Serve as the on-floor leader for maintenance and equipment issues during daily operations, including support in the cold room as needed.
- Report on equipment uptime, recurring failure modes, and capital project needs to farm leadership.
Qualifications
- 4+ years of experience in maintenance, facilities, manufacturing, or controlled-environment agriculture, including experience leading or mentoring others.
- Strong mechanical aptitude with hands-on troubleshooting across mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems.
- Experience with CMMS/maintenance tracking tools (e.g., MaintainX) preferred.
- Comfortable working in a food production environment; experience in food manufacturing or GMP environments preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to manage priorities across a team and communicate clearly with leadership.
- Reliable, safety-focused, and able to make sound decisions independently.
