As we continue to grow, we are seeking an experienced Senior Tax Preparer to join our team and play a key role in supporting our tax integration initiatives. This position offers the opportunity to work closely with CFP® professionals, paraplanners, client service associates, and fellow tax specialists in a highly collaborative environment where tax planning is central to the client experience.
Compensation Range:
- Full-time: $80,000 - $90,000
- If you pass the Series 65 exam, you can earn additional bonuses if you bring new clients to the financial planning business
Job Duties / The Day-to-Day:
- Prepare and sign individual (1040) tax returns for clients (estimating about 150 easy to medium complexity tax returns per year; pay may increase depending on amount of returns completed)
- Prepare tax projections to assist with year-end tax planning (estimating about 115 tax projections per year; pay may increase depending on the amount of projections completed)
- Meet with clients (average meeting will be about 30 minutes) to walk them through their tax returns and tax projections
- Ability to commute to Tustin, CA as needed (hybrid work will be available)
- Answer general tax questions for clients through-out the year
- Work with the IRS or relevant state authorities to resolve tax notices and other tax issues for relevant tax years
- Assist Tax Director with more complex projects as needed
- Stay up to date on tax law changes and is able to communicate the effects of the law changes to clients
- Hours from early February to mid-April will be very high for tax prep season, and hours from mid-August to mid-December will be moderately high for tax projection season
Required Experience/Qualifications:
- 3+ years of tax preparation experience primarily for individual clients
- EA or CPA (or working towards either)
- PTIN for filing tax returns
- Ability to effectively communicate tax concepts in layman terms
- Intermediate to advanced Excel skills
Preferred Experience/Qualifications:
- Experience working at H&R Block, Jackson Hewitt, or Liberty Tax is a huge plus, as we do a lot of tax return meetings in the Spring (similar to those companies)
- Familiarity with UltraTax and QuickBooks Online software
- Bachelors/Associate/Certificate in Accounting
Technical Skills:
- Ability to quickly learn and adapt to new systems and technology
