Log Shovel Operator
Pay: From $28.00 per hour
Overview
We are seeking a motivated and skilled Log Shovel Operator to join our log yard team. In this role, you will safely and efficiently operate a log shovel to load and unload log trucks, stack and sort logs, load and unload barges, and maintain an organized log yard. The ideal candidate has experience operating heavy equipment in a logging, sawmill, or marine log handling environment and is committed to working safely and productively.
Responsibilities
- Safely operate a log shovel to load and unload log trucks and barges.
- Stack, sort, and organize logs within the log yard.
- Feed logs as directed to support yard operations.
- Perform daily pre-trip inspections and routine maintenance on equipment.
- Report equipment defects or maintenance needs promptly.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
- Follow all company safety policies and operating procedures.
- Communicate effectively with truck drivers, barge crews, supervisors, and other yard personnel.
- Assist with general log yard operations as needed.
Qualifications
- Experience operating a log shovel or similar heavy equipment in a log yard, mill, or marine environment preferred.
- Ability to safely handle logs of varying sizes and species.
- Mechanical aptitude to perform daily inspections and identify maintenance concerns.
- Strong commitment to workplace safety.
- Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Dependable, punctual, and able to work well as part of a team.
- Valid driver's license required; CDL is a plus but not required unless operating commercial vehicles.
