Job Summary
We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Local Dispatcher specializing in Drayage operations to join our dynamic logistics team. In this vital role, you will coordinate the movement of freight between ports, warehouses, and distribution centers, ensuring timely and efficient delivery while maintaining compliance with transportation regulations. Your expertise in transportation planning, vehicle dispatching, and communication will drive smooth operations and exceptional customer service.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate and schedule the pickup and delivery of freight via road transportation, ensuring adherence to DOT regulations and safety standards.
- Utilize transportation management systems to monitor shipments, and update status in real-time.
- Manage multi-line phone systems for scheduling, customer inquiries, and internal communication with drivers.
- Maintain accurate data entry related to shipments, freight details, and delivery schedules.
- Communicate effectively with drivers, customers, and internal teams through phone calls, email, and digital messaging platforms to coordinate dispatch activities.
- Monitor GPS tools for route optimization, traffic updates, and fleet tracking to ensure efficient road transportation operations.
Experience
- Proven experience in transportation planning or dispatching within a logistics or 3PL environment.
- Familiarity with road transportation operations including freight movement, fleet management, and shipping & receiving procedures.
- Hands-on experience with transportation management systems such as Oracle Transportation Management or similar platforms.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities efficiently under tight deadlines.
- Excellent communication skills—both verbal and written—and phone etiquette for effective internal communication and customer service.
- Knowledge of GPS technology, DOT regulations, and logistics best practices is highly desirable.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel) along with data entry skills.
- Knowledge of the port and surrounding depot systems is desired but can also be taught.
- Bilingual with Spanish necessary.
Pay: $18.00 - $20.00 per hour
