Job Title: After-School Program Activity Leader (Elementary and Middle School)

Responsibilities
Activity Planning and Implementation
- Design and facilitate age-appropriate activities and games for Elementary and Middle School students, focusing on educational enrichment, physical activity, creativity, and social development.
- Develop weekly activity plans aligned with program objectives, incorporating diverse learning experiences to cater to different interests and abilities.
- Align activities with the Quality Standards for Expanded Learning (QSEL), ensuring enrichment experiences support academic, social, and emotional growth.
- Provide homework assistance and tutoring support to Elementary and Middle School students, helping reinforce classroom learning and build academic confidence.
Supervision and Safety
- Ensure the safety and well-being of all children during program hours, maintaining a secure and supportive environment.
- Supervise children during indoor and outdoor activities, enforcing program rules and procedures to promote positive behavior and conflict resolution.
- Follow all program safety protocols and reporting requirements, including mandated reporter obligations.
Quality Standards & Program Compliance
- Implement program activities in alignment with the Quality Standards for Expanded Learning (QSEL), including the domains of safe environment, supportive relationships, engaged learning, skill building, and healthy choices.
- Support program quality improvement efforts by participating in ongoing self-assessment processes and applying feedback to strengthen program delivery.
Relationship Building
- Foster positive relationships with Elementary and Middle School students, building trust and rapport through active engagement, encouragement, and supportive interactions.
- Communicate effectively with parents/guardians, providing updates on program activities, child progress, and any concerns or incidents as needed.
Collaboration
- Work collaboratively with other program staff to coordinate schedules, share resources, and ensure a cohesive program experience for all participants.
- Collaborate with school faculty to align program activities with academic goals and reinforce classroom learning.
Assessment and Feedback
- Observe and assess children’s participation, progress, and behavior during activities, providing constructive feedback and guidance to support individual growth and development.
- Maintain accurate records of attendance, incidents, and any notable observations, documenting children’s achievements and challenges.
- Monitor daily student attendance at the site, as students will check in using their badges.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required; college coursework or degree in education, child development, recreation, or related field preferred.
- Previous experience working with children in an educational or recreational setting, particularly with Elementary and/or Middle School students, is highly desirable.
- Familiarity with the Quality Standards for Expanded Learning (QSEL) or experience working in programs that apply expanded learning quality frameworks strongly preferred.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with children, parents, and colleagues.
- Creativity, adaptability, and a passion for working with young children, with an understanding of their developmental needs and interests.
- First aid and CPR certification (or willingness to obtain) may be required.
Schedule
- Part-time position, typically Monday to Friday during after-school hours (e.g., 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM).
- Additional hours may be required for staff meetings, training sessions, quality reviews, and special events.
