Job Summary:
GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The Child Care Attendant is responsible for the well-being of the children under their care. They are responsible for maintaining a safe and fun environment for young children to preteens. They must monitor the children to ensure that the children play and interact with one another in a safe and appropriate manner.
Job Duties:
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Maintain a safe, clean, and well-organized environment always.
- Clean and disinfect toys, equipment, storage areas, and play surfaces according to established schedules and daily maintenance standards.
- Follow universal precautions and use appropriate PPE when caring for children.
- Adhere to all policies and protocols for accepting and releasing children from the childcare area.
- Follow Cherokee Nation policies and procedures when caring for, communicating with, disciplining, or providing first aid to children.
- Ensure continuous and active supervision of all children.
- Plan, prepare, and conduct engaging activities to entertain children while guardians use property amenities.
- Complete timely and accurate documentation in accordance with Cherokee Nation and applicable regulatory requirements.
- Communicate professionally and tactfully with guardians, resolving concerns, complaints, and unexpected situations promptly.
- Report any suspected child abuse—of any type—to management immediately.
- Monitor supply inventory, anticipate needs, and communicate replenishment requests to the appropriate personnel.
- Accurately process payments, handle cash transactions, make change, and respond to customer inquiries related to payments.
LEVEL OF RESPONSIBILITY
- Performs work under minimal supervision.
- Handles complex issues and problems, referring only the most complex issues to higher-level staff.
Qualifications:
QUALIFICATIONS
- Highschool Diploma or General Education Degree (GED); no substitutions.
- No additional experience required.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel and talk or hear; walk; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
- Must possess a valid driver’s license with a driving history verified through a motor vehicle report that meets requirements for Cherokee Nation underwriting rating.
- CPR and First Aid certification is required within the first 90 days of hire.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
The employee must not be and will not be under sanction by the United States Department of Health and Human Services Office of the Inspector General (OIG) or by the General Services Administration (GSA) or listed on the OIG's Cumulative Sanction Report, or the GSA's List of Excluded Providers, or listed on the OIG's List of Excluded Individuals/Entities (LEIE).
Must meet and maintain pre-employment and periodic background investigation and adjudication for child care.
