The Emergency Medical Systems Bureau administers the Emergency Medical Services (EMS), Trauma, STEMI/Cardiac Arrest program. The EMS Program assures licensure for about 7000 Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) at five different levels. The EMS Bureau also regulates about 250 non-transport EMS agencies, 24 air ambulance agencies, and provides technical assistance to the NM Department of Transportation in their oversight of over 100 certified ambulance transport agencies. Our Time Critical Condition program includes the Trauma Program which designates trauma centers and also maintains data regarding the care and treatment of trauma patients. Similarly, the STEMI/Cardiac Arrest program works to develop a care system for those who have suffered a heart attack, to include the development and designation of STEMI centers around the state.
Why does the job exist?
This position will provide leadership and facilitation for the STEMI/Cardiac Arrest program, encouraging hospital participation in the respective registry and accreditation processes, growing the STEMI/Cardiac Arrest EMS and hospital treatment system, and improving the system of care for the affected patients.
How does it get done?
The STEMI/Cardiac Arrest coordinator will be working with all facilities and EMS services within the State of New Mexico, encouraging facilities to become STEMI certified. They will accomplish this by holding regional and statewide meetings to ascertain the needs of said area, promoting communication throughout the states facility and assisting EMS Regions in the development of destination protocols as it pertains to STEMI systems of care. They will also be utilizing the regulations for STEMI to assist and inform facilities as to what is required to be accomplished to become certified as a STEMI centers of care. They will be assisting facilities and EMS services on submission of data to the State.

The STEMI/Cardiac Arrest program works to assist the EMS services and acute care facilities to implement and sustain the infrastructure that assures that all residents and visitors of New Mexico will have access to current and capable STEMI care at the appropriate facilities.

Minimum Qualification
Associate's Degree and two (2) years of experience program administration or project management in areas related to the purpose of the position. Any combination of education and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling four (4) years may substitute for the required education and experience.
Employment Requirements
Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License. Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course Certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive Defensive Driving Course Certification within six (6) months of date of hire as a condition of continued employment.
Working Conditions
Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage. Some sitting, standing, stooping, bending, reaching and lifting up to twenty-five (25) pounds may be required. Frequent in-state and occasional out-of- state travel with the potential for overnight stay is required.
