American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Mixed Acuity ICU position at a Level II Trauma Center in Montgomery, AL, requiring a minimum of 1 year of ICU experience and an AL or compact RN license.

Work in a mixed acuity unit serving both intermediate care and non-vented ICU-level patients on an 18-bed unit

Patient population includes neurological and post-procedural patients (post-TNK, neuro IR procedures, hemorrhages/aneurysms, burr holes, VP shunt placements, craniotomy/craniectomy, lumbar drains, spinal cord injuries, EVDs, continuous EEG, and neuro/spine surgery), as well as patients with respiratory failure, CHF, hypotension, sepsis, AMS, acute neurological diagnoses, DKA, and electrolyte abnormalities

RN-to-patient ratio of 1:3 based on acuity; CNA ratio of 1:12

12-hour day shifts (7:00 AM – 7:00 PM), 36 hours per week

Every other weekend rotation required; back-to-back weekends are rare

No on-call responsibilities

EMR: Cerner (experience preferred)

IV pumps: Plum 360; medication dispensing: Omnicell; monitors: Spacelabs & Resparray

RNs are required to read and measure telemetry strips independently

Floating may be required to like units (e.g., ICU-to-ICU, ICU-to-MS task limited to 3 patients, or ICU-to-ER holds)

Active AL RN license or compact RN license required (can begin process pending licensure with ETA)

Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS

Minimum 1 year of ICU experience required

Experience managing patients on BiPAP/CPAP, cardiac rhythm interpretation, CVP monitoring, hemodynamic line monitoring, post-surgical drains, trachs, and chest tubes
-
Proficiency with titratable drips including Cardizem, Dobutamine, Dopamine, Esmolol, Insulin, Cardene, Nitro, Levophed, and Epinephrine

One reference from a charge nurse or above from within the past 12 months required for consideration

SSN and date of birth (day and month) required for consideration

Copy of current certifications required for consideration

Level II Trauma Center and Primary Stroke Center with 492 beds; also designated as a Level III NICU
-
Unit is in an intentional culture-building phase with shared commitment to improvement, accountability, and staff engagement
-
Strong departmental support including CNAs, charge nurses, a dedicated educator and nurse mentor, phlebotomy, IV/VAT team, rapid response team, RT (24/7), hospitalist (24/7), and intensivist (24/7)

New travelers to the facility will receive 24 hours of classroom orientation plus 24 hours of on-unit orientation

Holiday coverage required for one major and one minor seasonal holiday per policy; specific holiday assignments are not contractually guaranteed prior to arrival

Up to 7 days of time off may be approved per contract, excluding blackout dates

Schedule is managed on a 6-week cycle

No scrub color restrictions; any color is acceptable

Free parking available on campus and in a parking deck

Candidates must reside more than 60 miles from the facility to be eligible

First-time travelers are considered with a minimum of 2 years of ICU experience

Former permanent staff must wait 6 months before being considered as a traveler
