Preschool Teacher (Part-Time to Full-Time)

Good Shepherd School (GSS) is a small, play-based Episcopal preschool serving children ages 6 weeks to 5 years. We are seeking a warm, dedicated, and collaborative Preschool Teacher to join our team. This position may be part-time or full-time, depending on the candidate’s availability and the needs of the school.

Position Overview
The Preschool Teacher creates a safe, loving, and developmentally appropriate learning environment for young children. Teachers at GSS support the whole child—socially, emotionally, cognitively, physically, and spiritually—while collaborating with colleagues and building strong partnerships with families.
Teachers report directly to the Director and are supported by the Assistant Director and administrative team.
Key Responsibilities
Classroom Environment & Curriculum
- Plan and implement engaging, play-based, age-appropriate activities.
- Create a warm, inclusive, and responsive classroom environment.
- Support children’s social-emotional growth, self-help skills, and independence.
- Maintain classroom organization, cleanliness, and safety.
- Complete developmental documentation, portfolios, and required records.
Communication & Collaboration
- Build strong relationships with families through daily communication (via ProCare).
- Partner with co-teachers and support staff to maintain a positive classroom community.
- Participate in staff meetings, professional development, and school events.
Safety & Compliance
- Supervise children at all times and ensure a safe environment indoors and outdoors.
- Follow all DHS licensing rules and GSS policies regarding health, safety, hygiene, and emergency procedures.
- Complete annual required training (18 hours), including CPR/First Aid and child-protection training.
Qualifications
Required:
- Associate’s degree or higher OR significant experience in early childhood education.
- Experience working with young children in a preschool, childcare, or similar setting.
- Ability to pass all background checks and meet state licensing requirements.
- Warm, dependable, and professional presence with young children and families.
Preferred:
- Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field.
- CPR/First Aid training (or willingness to obtain).
Hours & Compensation
- Part-time to full-time options available (approximately 25–40 hours/week).
- Hourly rate based on experience and qualifications.
- Opportunities for additional hours through extended care or subbing.
