Position Summary
This position provides assistance to skilled Heavy Equipment Mechanics, aiding in Preventative Maintenance (PM’s) of the heavy equipment. Responsible for Operating the fuel Truck, keeping the fuel topped off and ready for use: Includes handing tools, supplies, and materials to other workers; preparing the work area and cleaning the work area or equipment, assisting in Preventive Maintenance
Supervisor Responsibilities
This position does not have supervisory responsibilities over other employees.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Clean and maintain the interior and exterior of the shop, wash bay and grounds. Includes sweeping the shop floor and sidewalk areas, emptying trash, scrap and waste management bins, and performing yard maintenance.
- Lubricate mining equipment according to established lubrication schedules
- Clean grease fitting and lubrication points before servicing to prevent contamination.
- Maintain accurate records of lubrication and fluid servicing activities.
- Identify worn, damaged, leaking or abnormal components and report them to the appropriate mechanic or supervisor.
- Check and replenish engine oil, hydraulic oil, transmission fluid, coolant and other approved fluids. Perform routine fluid -level and lubrication inspections and report leaks or abnormal conditions.
- Assist skilled workers in performing maintenance tasks on equipment and facilities.
- Wash various mining equipment, when necessary to allow proper inspection and maintenance.
- Handle used oil, filters, grease, and other waste material in accordance with company environmental and safety procedures.
- Routinely operate minor equipment including light vehicles, forklifts, floor mopper, service trucks and/or backhoe.
- Transfer tools, parts, equipment, and supplies to and from workstations and other areas.
- Use hand tools and small power tools.
- Comply with Westmoreland’s safety standards and procedures. Follow Uncompromised Life Safety Rules and Stop Work Authority.
- Report Hazards and Significant Incidents to supervisor immediately.
- Must be available to regularly work a 10-hour rotating day/swing shift or night shift (San Juan Mine Site).
While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in outside weather conditions. The employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts, and is frequently exposed to wet or humid conditions and vibrations. The employee occasionally works in high, precarious places and is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risks of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
Typical Working Conditions
While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly required to use hands, with (gloves) and fingers to handle, feel or operate objects, tools or controls, and reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to stand, talk and hear. The employee must frequently lift or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally left or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close, vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
Education and Experience
- High school diploma or GED
Licenses, Registration, and Certifications
- MSHA Part 48 training for mining operations is desired but onsite training will be given.
