Cardinal Law is seeking a dependable, organized, and motivated Paralegal to join our growing legal team. We are looking for someone who takes ownership of their work, communicates well with clients, pays close attention to deadlines and details, and is willing to step in wherever needed to help the office run efficiently.
This is a hands-on position supporting attorneys with case management, drafting, discovery, court filings, client communication, scheduling, and preparation for hearings and trials. Our firm uses MyCase for case management, calendaring, client communication, documents, and workflow management, so experience with MyCase or similar legal practice-management software is preferred.
Because we operate as a collaborative law office, this position also includes answering incoming phone calls, communicating with current and potential clients, scheduling consultations and appointments, assisting with new-client intake, and providing general office support when needed.
We are looking for someone who understands that excellent legal work and excellent client service go hand in hand.
Responsibilities
- Assist attorneys with the management of active cases from intake through resolution
- Maintain accurate and organized case files, client information, notes, tasks, deadlines, and documents in MyCase
- Draft and prepare pleadings, motions, discovery, correspondence, notices, and other legal documents
- Assist with written discovery, including interrogatories, requests for production, requests for admission, document review, and organization of evidence
- Calendar and monitor court dates, hearings, depositions, mediations, discovery deadlines, statutes of limitation, appointments, and other important deadlines
- Prepare and electronically file pleadings and other documents with Missouri courts
- Assist attorneys in preparing for hearings, depositions, mediations, trials, and client meetings
- Gather, organize, and summarize medical records, bills, discovery materials, photographs, correspondence, and other evidence
- Communicate professionally with clients, courts, opposing counsel, medical providers, insurance companies, experts, and other parties
- Keep clients appropriately informed and document communications in MyCase
- Answer and route incoming telephone calls and assist callers professionally
- Communicate with potential clients and assist with initial intake
- Schedule and confirm consultations and client appointments
- Assist with following up on missed consultations, rescheduling appointments, and obtaining information needed before consultations
- Assist with opening new matters and ensuring client and matter information is properly entered into MyCase
- Assist with closing and organizing completed matters
- Scan, upload, organize, and maintain documents and correspondence
- Perform legal and procedural research as requested by attorneys
- Maintain strict confidentiality of client and firm information
- Work collaboratively with attorneys, paralegals, and administrative staff
- Assist with other legal and general office responsibilities as needed
Qualifications
- Previous experience as a paralegal, legal assistant, or in a law-office environment preferred
- Litigation experience strongly preferred
- Experience with MyCase or another legal practice-management system is a plus
- Familiarity with Missouri court procedures and electronic filing is preferred
- Strong legal writing, proofreading, and document-preparation skills
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to identify and track deadlines
- Strong organizational and time-management skills
- Ability to manage multiple matters and competing priorities
- Professional written and verbal communication skills
- Comfortable communicating with clients and potential clients both by telephone and in person
- Professional and courteous telephone manner
- Strong computer and technology skills
- Ability to learn new software and office systems quickly
- Ability to work independently while also functioning as part of a team
- Dependable, adaptable, and willing to help wherever needed
- Sound judgment and ability to appropriately handle confidential and sensitive information
The Person We're Looking For
Our ideal candidate is someone who takes initiative rather than waiting to be told every next step. You should be comfortable managing your responsibilities, following up on outstanding tasks, keeping attorneys aware of deadlines, communicating professionally with clients, and helping solve problems as they arise.
Cardinal Law is a team environment. While this is a paralegal position, we do not operate with a rigid “that's not my job” mentality. Everyone may occasionally assist with phones, scheduling, intake, client communication, and other administrative needs when necessary. At the same time, the primary focus of this position is providing high-quality paralegal and case-management support to our attorneys.
