Early Childhood Teacher - Children's House (ages three through pre-kindergarten)
About us
Welsh Hills School is an independent school that serving children from eighteen months through grade twelve. Children's House is part of the Montessori-based Early Childhood program. Through its hands-on curriculum, students experience education in an environment that encourages creativity and nurtures a child’s natural love of learning. The newly hired teacher will work with and follow the direction of an experienced lead Children's House teacher in the classroom.
Responsibilities
Classroom structure, curriculum planning, and implementation are primary responsibilities. Other responsibilities include:
- Maintain developmentally appropriate classroom environment and structures.
- Implement teacher-directed activities.
- Demonstrate and model integrity, curiosity, compassion, respect, belonging, and cultural awareness within the school.
- Facilitate developmentally appropriate student academic and social learning one-on-one and in small/large groups.
- Assist with formal and informal assessments as appropriate.
- Communicate effectively with coworkers, administration, and with parents.
- Nurture and maintain a classroom culture that embraces kindness and respect.
- Support student learning.
- Collaborate actively with other staff in lesson preparations and scheduling.
- Supervise students throughout the day in multiple settings.
- Be familiar with and follow Ohio's state licensing guidelines for an early childhood classroom.
- Contribute positively to the overall school community.
- Represent the school in a professional manner in all settings and circumstances.
- Be familiar with and uphold Welsh Hills School’s mission, vision, values, and philosophy.
- Be on time for scheduled work hours in the classroom and follow established procedures for calling off work for any scheduled hours.
- Maintain all required certifications and meet annual professional development requirements.
- Attend monthly staff meetings and all staff inservice meetings.
- Attend activities outside of regular school hours that support Welsh Hills School through staff participation (Ice Cream Social, Dragon Lair Fair, etc.).
Position Requirements
Applicants should be interested in the educational opportunities working in an independent school provides; including flexibility, cooperative teaching, multi-age classrooms, and differentiated learning opportunities for students. Applicants must be open-minded, excellent communicators, and willing to collaborate with fellow teachers.
Bachelor's degree in education or related field required.
Montessori certification or experience strongly preferred. (willingness to complete a Montessori certification program)
