Certified Intentional Peer Support Specialist (CIPSS)
Location: Washington County-Indian Township/Pleasant Point
Job Type: Part-Time (20 hours per week)
Cornerstone Behavioral Healthcare is seeking a compassionate and recovery-focused Certified Intentional Peer Support Specialist (CIPSS) to join our team. This position requires lived experience with mental health challenges and/or substance use recovery, along with the ability and willingness to use that experience in a purposeful, professional, and recovery-oriented way to support others.
As a Peer Support Specialist, you will provide non-clinical, peer-based support grounded in mutual respect, shared experience, and recovery-oriented practices. You will work alongside case management and clinical staff while maintaining the unique and important role of peer support.
What You’ll Do
- Build supportive relationships with peers through shared lived experience and recovery-focused support
- Encourage self-advocacy, wellness, personal growth, and self-directed recovery
- Provide one-on-one and group peer support services in community settings
- Facilitate peer-led groups, social activities, and wellness-focused events
- Help individuals strengthen natural supports and community connections
- Assist peers with educational, vocational, and employment-related goals
- Support outreach and re-engagement efforts for individuals accessing services
- Provide recovery education, system navigation, and health promotion support
- Assist peers during times of crisis in a supportive, non-clinical role
- Coordinate and connect individuals to community and peer support resources
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation in compliance with agency standards and HIPAA regulations
What We’re Looking For
- High School Diploma or GED required
- Current Maine CIPSS certification (or ability to obtain and maintain certification)
- Lived experience with mental health challenges and/or substance use recovery
- Willingness to appropriately share recovery experiences to support others
- Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to maintain healthy boundaries and professionalism within a multidisciplinary team
- Valid driver’s license and proof of vehicle insurance (100/300) are required
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively
- Commitment to recovery-oriented, person-centered care
