About the Position:
We are hiring a Loan Specialist for a locally owned, long-standing pawn shop. This is not a typical retail job.
Our customers are often dealing with stressful financial situations. We treat them with respect, patience, and fairness while still making responsible business decisions. The job is not simply selling merchandise - it is listening, evaluating items, explaining value, and helping customers understand their options.
You will be trusted to make real-time loan and purchase decisions at the counter. That requires calm communication, good judgement, and the ability to be honest with people even when the answer is not what they hoped for.
The role fits someone who can be both professional and empathetic: someone who can hold boundaries without talking down to people and who understands that how a customer is treated matters as much as the transaction itself.
Responsibilities:
- Evaluate items brought in for loan or sale
- Clearly explain value and loan terms to customers
- Negotiate respectfully and consistently
- Maintain accurate records of all transactions
- Retail merchandise sales
- Keep organized workspaces and secure inventory
- Follow any and all legal and company procedures for regulated items
Qualifications:
- Comfortable speaking with all types of people
- Ability to stay calm when customers are frustrated or emotional
- Make consistent decisions instead of emotional ones
- Honesty and accountability for mistakes
- Able to work independently without constant supervision
- Strong attention to detail and memory retention
- Reliable attendance and punctuality required
- Basic computer skills (typing, learning software)
- Retail or pawn experience helpful but not required
- Multiple languages not required, but preferred
Requirements:
- Must pass a background check
- Ability to legally handle firearms (federal requirements apply)
- Standing for long periods
- Lifting up to 40lbs occasionally
Schedule:
- Monday to Friday, some weekends
- Weekends required
- Day shift
Pay:
- Hourly based on experience
- Monthly preformance bonuses
Job Types: Full-time, Part-time
Pay: $16.00 - $19.00 per hour
Expected hours: 20.0 – 40.0 per week
