The City of Portsmouth is seeking responsible and customer-focused individuals to serve as a Peirce Island Boat Ambassador. This role will support daily operations on Peirce Island by assisting visitors, monitor parking and boat launch activities, and ensure a safe and enjoyable use Peirce Island.
Pay rate: $15.00 an hour
Hours: Seasonal, Part-Time, 20-25 hours a week

NATURE OF WORK
Incumbent communicates with the public to ensure proper usage of Peirce Island, parking, boat launch, and assist with enforcement.
SUPERVISION
Incumbent works under the supervision of the Spinnaker Point Manager. Incumbent plans and carries out daily work with a degree of independence, in accordance with standard office practices and procedures, the rules and regulations governing the operations of the department, and previous training. The incumbent must be familiar with and observe office procedures, city laws, rules, and regulations.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

1. Supervise usage of patrons on Peirce Island, ensure usage is for Island use only.
2. Locate available parking spaces for boat launches, collect fees for seasonal launch passes and daily fee launches. Fee collecting is kept in a safe box and removed each day. Checks and cash are documented in RecPro.
3. Boaters will launch and secure their own boats, but staff will assist as needed. Staff are briefly trained in the safety of boats.
4. Assist public in location of outdoor pool, parks, and walking trails on the island.
5. Enforce dog rules of the island.
6. Communication with the public on safety tides, currents and launch locations. Assist additional staff as needed and communicate with supervisor of any issues each day.
7. Maintain parking areas by picking up trash and assist in routine maintenance with the Department of Public Works.
8. Perform related work as required.

7. Ability to perform all tasks assigned, in a reasonable amount of time, with a positive attitude. It is imperative to a successful crew that all team members work well together and provide support for each other.

ENVIRONMENT, WORKING CONDITIONS, PHYSICAL AND MENTAL EFFORT
Primary duties of this position involve: communicating accurately and effectively with members of the public and staff on a variety of related items. This includes responding to inquiries and complaints and providing information. Work is performed outside in all weather conditions. Position includes physical requirements such as moving and transporting materials weighing up to 25lbs.
MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Incumbent must have a high school diploma or equivalent. Boating and customer service experience is desired.
