Job Title: Integrated Security Systems Technician (Evening Shift)

Position Summary:
The Physical Security Technician delivers Tier 1/Tier 2 hardware and infrastructure support for the University's physical security systems and critical Public Safety technology stack. Operating on an evening schedule supporting a 24/7/365 environment, this role ensures high availability, field troubleshooting, installation, and routine maintenance of IP-based security devices, wireless communication systems, and critical campus safety nodes.
Key Technical Responsibilities
- Building Security Infrastructure: Inspect, diagnose, repair, and service field hardware for Access Control Systems (ACS), IP Video Surveillance Systems (VSS), Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS), and Panic Alarms. Read and interpret system single-lines, field wiring diagrams, and CAD floor plans.
- Public Safety Communications & Fleet Systems: Deploy, configure, and maintain Mobile Data Terminals (MDTs), in-vehicle cradlepoint LTE routers, Automated Vehicle Location (AVL) GPS units, and dual-band (800 MHz / 400 MHz) Land Mobile Radio (LMR) subscriber units. Support FirstNet/AT&T Push-to-Talk (EPTT) hardware.
- Smart Campus & Specialized Systems: Maintain functionality for License Plate Recognition (LPR) cameras, Blue Light Emergency Stations, dynamic alarm mapping servers, and outdoor audible mass notification sirens.
- Operations Center Support: Provide hardware and workstation-level support for equipment deployed across the primary and secondary Dispatch/Public Safety Communications Centers.
- Network & Field Layer Diagnostics: Utilize basic TCP/IP networking protocols (IP addressing, subnetting, DHCP, ping/traceroute tests) to resolve field-level connectivity issues across network switches, media converters, and edge devices.
Hiring Range: $39.47/hr to $49.35/hr. Pay rate commensurate with relevant experience.
Required Qualifications:
Technical Qualifications & Core Competencies
- Field Experience: Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience as a field technician deploying, terminating, testing, and troubleshooting electronic security and public safety systems.
- Networking Layer: Solid understanding of TCP/IP communication protocols, LAN/WAN basics, network cabling standards (Cat5e/Cat6), and signal testing.
- Hand/Power Tools: Mastery of low-voltage hand tools, crimpers, wire strippers, multimeters, toner probes, line testers, and power drills.
Required Certifications or Preferred System Experience
- Access Control / IDS / Intercom: Software House CCURE 9000 (Installer Certification preferred), Inovonics Wireless Panic Systems, DSC Intrusion Panels, 2N, and Aiphone IP Intercoms.
- Video Management (VMS): Genetec Security Center (Omnicast certified preferred) and Axis Communications IP cameras/encoders.
- Software Proficiency: Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word), Google Workspace, and ticketing/CAD platforms.
Physical Requirements & Environmental Factors
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record for operating University fleet vehicles across campus properties.
- Ability to lift, carry, and maneuver equipment weighing up to 50 lbs unassisted.
- Ability to safely work at heights using ladders, lifts, or step stools up to a minimum of 15 feet.
- Comfort working outdoors in varying weather conditions during the evening shift.
Pay: $82,100.00 - $102,650.00 per year
