Responsibilities
- Offer companionship by engaging in conversations, reading, listening, or participating in activities that bring joy and comfort to patients
- Assist with non-medical tasks such as running errands, light housekeeping, or providing respite for family caregivers
- Provide emotional support through active listening, empathy, and reassurance tailored to each patient’s needs
- Support patients in maintaining their dignity and independence by respecting their wishes and preferences
- Collaborate with healthcare professionals to ensure patient comfort and well-being are prioritized at all times
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to all hospice policies and procedures
- Document volunteer hours and activities accurately to support ongoing care planning
Requirements
- Genuine compassion, patience, and a desire to serve others during difficult times
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to listen empathetically
- Ability to maintain professionalism while providing emotional support in sensitive situations
- Flexibility to volunteer during scheduled times that suit your availability
- Ability to pass background checks and complete any required training or orientation sessions
- Prior experience in caregiving or healthcare is a plus but not required; training will be provided
- Must be able to handle emotionally challenging situations with resilience and sensitivity
