Position Overview
Sterling World Wide Logistics is seeking an experienced, highly motivated
Freight Forwarding Sales Executive to drive new business growth across our international freight forwarding and multimodal logistics services.This is a sales-focused, revenue-generating position for an individual with established knowledge of international logistics, a strong network of shippers and beneficial cargo owners, and a demonstrated ability to develop new accounts.The successful candidate will be responsible for identifying, pursuing, and closing new business across ocean freight, air freight, drayage, intermodal, and domestic transportation, while developing long-term relationships with customers that have meaningful and recurring logistics needs.This is not an account maintenance role. We are looking for a hunter who can open doors, build relationships, create opportunities, and convert those opportunities into profitable, sustainable revenue.Key ResponsibilitiesNew Business Development
- Prospect, develop, and close new international freight forwarding customers.
- Build a consistent pipeline of qualified opportunities across ocean and air freight.
- Target importers, exporters, manufacturers, distributors, retailers, and other organizations with significant international transportation requirements.
- Conduct outbound prospecting through calls, email, referrals, networking, industry relationships, trade events, and strategic account development.
- Identify decision-makers within transportation, logistics, supply chain, procurement, and operations.
- Develop relationships from initial introduction through pricing, implementation, and ongoing account expansion.
Freight Forwarding SalesDevelop opportunities across:
- Ocean FCL and LCL
- International air freight
- Import and export transportation
- Port-to-door and door-to-door solutions
- Drayage and container transportation
- Intermodal transportation
- Transloading and warehousing
- Customs brokerage coordination
- Expedited and time-critical freight
- Domestic FTL and LTL transportation
The Freight Forwarding Sales Executive will be expected to identify opportunities where Sterling can manage multiple components of the customer's supply chain rather than simply quoting individual shipments.Account Growth
- Develop comprehensive logistics solutions based on each customer's supply chain.
- Expand successful forwarding accounts into Sterling's domestic transportation services.
- Identify additional lanes, facilities, ports, modes, and business units within existing customers.
- Work toward becoming a strategic logistics partner rather than a transactional freight provider.
- Maintain relationships with key customer stakeholders and continuously identify opportunities for expansion.
Pricing & Solution Development
- Work closely with operations, pricing, carrier partners, overseas agents, and management to develop competitive solutions.
- Understand international freight rates, surcharges, accessorial charges, transit times, routing options, and service requirements.
- Evaluate opportunities based on both revenue potential and profitability.
- Participate in RFQs, RFPs, annual bids, spot opportunities, and strategic pricing exercises.
- Clearly communicate Sterling's service capabilities and competitive advantages.
Pipeline Management & Performance
- Maintain an accurate and active sales pipeline.
- Document customer activity, opportunities, quotes, follow-ups, and next steps within the company's CRM/sales management system.
- Provide regular forecasts for expected new business and revenue.
- Maintain disciplined follow-up on open opportunities and quotations.
- Meet established activity, new-account, revenue, and gross-profit targets.
Performance ExpectationsSuccess in this position will be measured primarily through:
- New customer acquisition
- New revenue generated
- Gross profit generated
- Qualified sales pipeline
- Customer meetings and opportunities created
- RFQ/RFP participation
- Conversion of quotes into business
- Expansion of existing accounts
- Recurring and sustainable shipment volume
The objective is not simply to generate activity — it is to create profitable, repeatable freight revenue.QualificationsRequired
- 3+ years of successful sales experience within freight forwarding, international logistics, transportation, or supply chain services.
- Strong understanding of international ocean and/or air freight.
- Demonstrated ability to prospect and acquire new customers.
- Understanding of international transportation pricing and operational requirements.
- Strong communication, negotiation, presentation, and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to manage a sales pipeline independently and consistently follow opportunities through to close.
- Strong commercial judgment with an understanding of revenue, margin, and customer profitability.
Preferred
- Existing relationships with importers, exporters, manufacturers, distributors, retailers, or other international shippers.
- Demonstrated transferable book of relationships or history of developing significant new business.
- Experience selling both international forwarding and domestic transportation.
- Knowledge of drayage, intermodal, FTL, LTL, warehousing, and transloading.
- Experience participating in large RFQs and enterprise transportation bids.
- Experience developing multimillion-dollar logistics accounts.
Pay: $55,000.00 - $75,000.00 per year
