About the Role
ONE Arts Community School – Berlin is seeking an experienced Co-Director to join the leadership team at our Berlin early childhood education center.
Located in the heart of Berlin, Vermont, our school serves infants, toddlers, and preschool-aged children in a welcoming, relationship-centered environment. Conveniently located near Central Vermont Medical Center, Interstate 89, and the Barre-Montpelier area, the school provides easy access for both families and staff throughout Central Vermont. Our classrooms embrace an emergent, play-based, arts-integrated, and anti-bias approach, where children's interests inspire learning and educators are encouraged to bring creativity, curiosity, and joy into every day.
This is a collaborative leadership position responsible for supporting the daily operations of the school while fostering a positive culture for children, families, and educators. Working alongside a Co-Director and the ONE Arts Leadership Team, you'll help ensure regulatory compliance, support teacher growth, strengthen organizational systems, and maintain an exceptional educational environment.
The ideal candidate is an experienced early childhood leader who is collaborative, organized, adaptable, and committed to building strong relationships. What You'll Do
- Partner with the Co-Director to oversee the daily operations of the school.
- Lead, supervise, and support teaching staff, including scheduling, classroom coverage, and ratio management.
- Maintain compliance with Vermont Child Care Licensing Regulations and organizational policies.
- Foster a positive, collaborative workplace culture that supports educator success and professional growth.
- Mentor teachers through coaching, classroom observations, and ongoing feedback.
- Support onboarding, orientation, and professional development for new employees.
- Step into classrooms as needed to maintain continuity of care and licensing ratios.
- Partner with families through tours, communication, and relationship building.
- Maintain licensing documentation, child records, incident reports, and required program documentation.
- Support the development and implementation of organizational systems, procedures, and center operations.
- Coordinate family engagement opportunities, school events, and communication through Brightwheel and other platforms.
- Collaborate with Executive Leadership to support staffing, budgeting, enrollment, and operational planning.
- Promote a safe, welcoming, and inclusive learning environment for children, families, and staff.
QualificationsRequired
- Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field.
- Meet Vermont Step 1 or Step 2 Director qualifications (or higher).
- Minimum of three years of experience in a licensed early childhood education program.
- Direct classroom teaching experience.
- Strong understanding of child development and developmentally appropriate practices.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Preferred
- Leadership or supervisory experience.
- Experience coaching and mentoring educators.
- Ability to balance multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Positive attitude, flexibility, creativity, and a collaborative leadership style.
