Job Summary: Rogen and Avelino, A Law Corporation is seeking a compassionate, motivated, and experienced Immigration Attorney to join our growing immigration practice. The ideal candidate will have at least 6-12 months of substantive immigration law experience, be fluent in Spanish, and be comfortable managing cases before the Immigration Courts and U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services.
Our firm represents individuals, families, professionals, businesses, and detained noncitizens in a broad range of immigration matters.
Responsibilities
- The Immigration Attorney will be responsible for managing an active caseload and will work closely with the firm’s attorneys, paralegals, law clerks, and administrative staff. Responsibilities may include:
- Representing clients in removal proceedings before the Executive Office for Immigration Review;
- Appearing at master calendar hearings, individual hearings, bond hearings, and other immigration court proceedings;
- Preparing and litigating applications for asylum, withholding of removal, protection under the Convention Against Torture, cancellation of removal, adjustment of status, waivers, and other forms of relief;
- Preparing motions to reopen, motions to reconsider, motions to terminate, bond motions, briefs, and other legal filings;
- Conducting client and witness interviews and preparing clients for testimony;
- Reviewing declarations, supporting evidence, criminal records, immigration histories, and government filings;
- Representing clients in family-based and humanitarian matters before USCIS, including adjustment of status, waivers, VAWA, U visas, and related applications;
- Assisting with detained immigration matters and communicating with detention facilities, deportation officers, government counsel, and family members;
- Conducting legal research and developing case strategies involving complex procedural, criminal, and immigration issues;
- Communicating clearly and compassionately with Spanish-speaking clients regarding case strategy, deadlines, risks, and responsibilities;
Depending on the attorney’s background and interests, the position may also involve employment-based immigration matters, including PERM labor certifications, TN petitions, nonimmigrant visa petitions, and consular processing.
Qualifications
- Juris Doctorate degree is required
- License to practice as an attorney
- 6-12 months of immigration experience
- Must be fluent in Spanish and English
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Highly organized with document management experience
- Excellent research skills
