About This Role
We are seeking a licensed Master Electrician to support the installation, maintenance, and commissioning of electrical systems for critical infrastructure projects — including data centers, substations, and mission-critical facilities — across the Washington D.C., Maryland, and Virginia markets. This role requires deep technical expertise in high-reliability electrical systems, strict adherence to code and safety standards, and the ability to work across multiple jurisdictions with differing permitting and inspection requirements. You'll be a hands-on technical leader on the job site — directing crews, reviewing electrical drawings, ensuring code compliance, and troubleshooting complex power distribution systems that support always-on operations. This is a critical role for someone who takes pride in precision, safety, and getting mission-critical systems right the first time.
Key Responsibilities Electrical Installation & Commissioning
- Lead the installation, testing, and commissioning of medium- and low-voltage electrical distribution systems, including switchgear, generators, UPS systems, PDUs, and transformers.
- Read and interpret complex electrical schematics, one-line diagrams, and construction drawings for critical infrastructure builds.
- Oversee commissioning and energization activities in coordination with engineering and controls teams.
Code Compliance & Inspections
- Ensure all work complies with the National Electrical Code (NEC), local amendments, and jurisdiction-specific requirements across D.C., Maryland, and Virginia.
- Coordinate directly with AHJs (Authorities Having Jurisdiction) and inspectors across all three jurisdictions to secure permits, approvals, and final signoffs.
- Maintain accurate as-built documentation and permit records for each site.
Crew Leadership & Safety
- Supervise and mentor journeyman and apprentice electricians on-site, assigning work and reviewing quality installation.
- Enforce strict adherence to safety protocols, including arc-flash, lockout/tagout (LOTO), and PPE requirements appropriate for live and de-energized work in mission-critical environments.
- Conduct toolbox talks and safety briefings; identify and correct hazards proactively.
Risk & Reliability Management
- Support root-cause troubleshooting of electrical faults and reliability issues with minimal disruption to live operations.
- Partner with facilities and operations teams to plan electrical maintenance windows that protect uptime and SLAs.
- Escalate design or constructability issues that could impact schedule, safety, or system reliability.
Cross-Functional Coordination
- Act as the primary electrical point of contact for general contractors, engineers, and infrastructure program managers on assigned projects.
- Coordinate with other trades (mechanical, controls, low voltage/security) to sequence work and avoid conflicts.
- Provide regular progress updates to project leadership on installation status, inspection milestones, and open risks.
Preferred Skills and Qualifications Required
- Active Master Electrician license in the District of Columbia, Maryland, and Virginia (all three required; candidates with two who can obtain the third within 90 days of hire may be considered).
- 7+ years of electrical journeyman/master-level experience, including at least 3+ years supporting data centers, substation, or other critical/mission-critical facility work.
- Strong working knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC) and jurisdiction-specific amendments for D.C., MD, and VA.
- Hands-on experience with medium-voltage distribution, switchgear, generators, UPS systems, and PDUs.
- OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification.
- Demonstrated experience directing crews and coordinating with inspectors, AHJs, and general contractors.
- Valid driver's license and ability to travel between job sites across the DMV region as needed.
Preferred
- NFPA 70E arc flash certification.
- Experience working in live, occupied, or 24/7 uptime-critical environments.
- Familiarity with BICSI, TIA/EIA, or other low voltage/data infrastructure standards.
- Prior experience on federal, DoD, or secure facility projects is a plus.
- Experience with Building Management Systems (BMS) or electrical monitoring/telemetry platforms.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
- Regular travel between active job sites in D.C., Maryland, and Virginia; some projects may require extended time at a single site.
- Work may occur in active data center or critical facility environments, including nights, weekends, or on-call availability during scheduled maintenance windows or emergency response.
- Ability to lift to 50 lbs, work at heights, in confined spaces, and in both indoor and outdoor conditions as required.
- Must be comfortable working around live electrical systems following strict safety protocols.
