Educational and Experience Requirement
Associates Degree in related field. Three years related experience or experience in a related field. Certifications may be required. A combination of education, experience, and training that would produce the required knowledge and abilities could be considered.
Nature & Purpose of Position
Performs specialist support duties for the department of Services for Students with Disabilities (SSD). Assists with front-desk coverage and proctoring and administration of accommodated exams during peak testing periods.
Primary Responsibilities
Coordinates contracted, communication access services, including sign language interpreting and real-time (CART) captioning for the deaf and hard-of-hearing. Coordinates and oversees dedicated notetaker services provided by student workers. Coordinates contracted Braille services. Checks out adaptive aids to students and maintains an inventory of such items. Maintains an inventory of adaptive classroom furniture and places work orders for the movement and placement of same. Provides back-up assistance with alternative textbook and adaptive technology services. Assists with proctoring and administration of accommodated exams during peak testing periods on the Huntsville and satellite campuses. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Other Specifications
Requires detailed knowledge of university infrastructure, policies and procedures. Requires thorough knowledge of office systems. Must be able to work collaboratively with coworkers and provide a high level of customer service at all times. May devote from 25% to 50% of time to routine contacts by telephone with employees of other work units in obtaining or supplying information relating to work. Must have the ability to solve operational problems and make suggestions for process improvement. Attention and care is required in the performance of duties to prevent injury to self or others.
