Position Summary
Waymark Academy is seeking a passionate, Christ-centered Part-Time Forest School Teacher who loves the outdoors and believes that God's creation is one of the greatest classrooms. This position teaches and mentors students from preschool through 7th grade in an outdoor learning environment throughout the school year.
The ideal candidate is energetic, flexible, enjoys hiking and exploring nature, and is committed to helping children grow academically, socially, spiritually, and emotionally through hands-on, outdoor experiences.
Qualifications
Required:
- A personal relationship with Jesus Christ and agreement with the school's Christian mission and values.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Clean criminal background check.
- Current CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
- Ability to work safely with children in outdoor environments.
- Physically able to:
- Hike on uneven terrain.
- Stand and walk for extended periods.
- Bend, kneel, lift up to 40 pounds, and assist children when needed.
- Work outdoors in all seasons and weather conditions including heat, cold, rain, mud, and wind.
Preferred:
- Degree in Education, Environmental Science, Environmental Education, Outdoor Education, Early Childhood Education, or a related field.
- Environmental Educator Certificate or Forest School certification.
- Experience teaching children in outdoor, nature-based, or experiential learning environments.
- Knowledge of local plants, wildlife, ecology, and outdoor safety.
Responsibilities
- Plan and lead engaging outdoor lessons for preschool through 7th grade.
- Integrate biblical truth throughout instruction while encouraging stewardship of God's creation.
- Foster curiosity, creativity, problem-solving, and a love of learning through nature exploration.
- Supervise students during hikes, outdoor activities, and nature investigations.
- Teach environmental awareness, outdoor skills, and responsible stewardship.
- Maintain a safe learning environment while managing reasonable risks associated with outdoor education.
- Adapt lessons to varying ages, developmental levels, and weather conditions.
- Encourage teamwork, kindness, respect, and Christ-like character.
- Communicate effectively with school administration, staff, and families.
- Assist with seasonal events, field experiences, and special outdoor programs as needed.
- Follow all school safety policies and emergency procedures.

- Comfortable leading students in unstructured natural environments while maintaining appropriate supervision.
Work Environment
This position is conducted entirely outdoors. Teachers should expect to work in forests, fields, gardens, trails, and other natural environments throughout the school year. Daily activities include hiking, outdoor instruction, nature play, environmental investigations, and hands-on learning in varying weather conditions.
