Special Requirements
After an application is received, the applicant will receive an email with a link to an online exam. The exam must be completed by July 27, 2026.
Upon completion of the entry level exam, all candidate scores will be forwarded to the Moraine Merit System Commission. Candidates who attain a passing score on the entrance exam will be ranked according to their score and placed on the Commission’s eligibility list. The City of Moraine will contact each candidate following the exam with their overall score.
Applicants considered for further processing will undergo interviews, criminal background and reference checks, medical exam, drug screen, and other tests deemed necessary by the Street Superintendent.

Summary and Purpose
This position performs a variety of semi-skilled maintenance work and operates equipment in the construction, operation, repair, and maintenance of City streets and storm drainage facilities and systems. Work is performed under general supervision of the Superintendent and/or specific supervision of Equipment Operators or crew leader.

Requirements and Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED and/or any equivalent combination of experience and training.
Some knowledge of tools, equipment, materials, supplies, and procedures used in construction, maintenance, and repair.
Must comply with all City rules and regulations (PPM), Division regulations and Union contacts. All candidates must be willing to submit to random drug screenings.
Knowledge of work place safety principles and practices.
Ability to perform heavy manual tasks for extended periods of time.
Ability to work overtime, weekends, and holidays.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with peers, supervisors, contractors and vendors.
Ability to deal effectively with the public.
Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Maintain good physical condition in order to work outdoors under various weather conditions, as well as indoors. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, or sit. To use hands and fingers to handle or feel objects and operate equipment or controls. The employee may also have to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee will occasionally lift heavy weight items, 100 pounds or less, such as equipment or other material.
Specific vision abilities required of this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Corrective lenses may be worn to aid in specific vision requirements.
Requires normal hearing abilities.
Possess current Ohio state driver’s license with CDL endorsement.
Must be of good moral character, with no disqualifying criminal history.
Duties and Responsibilities
1. Operate equipment such as hand and riding mowers, weed eaters, jackhammer, snow blowers, snow shovels, hand striper, and a variety of hand tools.
2. Inspect and/or repair streets and drainage systems at frequent intervals to ensure that all aspects of the systems are functioning properly.
3. Determine the locations of gas, telephone, power, television, water, and sewer lines from the appropriate sources prior to excavation.
4. Accomplish construction and maintenance projects as part of a crew, to include pavement cutting, ditch maintenance, manhole and line cleaning, main and pipe repair, laying and backfilling, concrete repair, tree trimming, pavement replacement, and dry well maintenance.
5. Clean up road trash, tree trimming, and maintain City right-of-ways.
6. Properly and safely use equipment and tools, and ensure a safe work environment.
7. Inspect and maintain equipment, tools and necessary supplies and report defective equipment to supervisor for repair.
8. Operate other equipment as necessary and after being trained. May drive a dump truck in an emergency.
9. Respond to complaints, evaluate situation, and repair problem and/or report findings and recommendations to supervisor for appropriate resolution.
10. Fill out and maintain records and reports relating to inspections, maintenance activities, etc.
11. Maintain regular and timely attendance.
12. Serve as crew leader to ensure timely completion of projects.
13. Perform other duties as required.
