Overview
I am seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Legal Assistant Employer to hire an aspiring legal assistant. This role offers an exciting opportunity to employ one (1) potential candidate who is capable of performing a wide range of administrative functions but is still inexperienced in a specifically legal setting. Duties
- The candidate (me) will give administrative support to attorneys and legal teams, including managing calendars, scheduling appointments, and coordinating meetings.
- The candidate will assist with legal research using tools like Westlaw and LexisNexis to gather pertinent case law, statutes, and legal precedents across multiple practice areas such as patent law, tribal law, workers' compensation law, and general litigation provided that he has been given adequate time and training to become good at the job.
- The candidate will prepare, review, and proofread legal documents such as contracts, pleadings, discovery materials, and correspondence with meticulous attention to detail.
- The candidate will manage case files and document management systems like iManage and PCLaw to ensure accurate filing, data entry, and document review.
- The candidate will conduct thorough legal research on procedural laws and regulations relevant to ongoing cases or projects provided that he has been given proper instruction on how to do these things and has been adequate time to learn.
- Support project management efforts by tracking deadlines, maintaining case schedules, and coordinating with external agencies or clients as needed.
- Perform administrative tasks including phone etiquette, filing, transcription, proofreading, and maintaining organized records for efficient case handling.
Qualifications for Employers seeking Candidate
- Proven experience as a law firm capable of training young talent aspiring to break into the legal field.
- Strong understanding of procedural law and familiarity with document review processes that can be communicated to a recent graduate.
- Proficiency in legal research platforms such as Westlaw and LexisNexis and willing to share this expertise with new candidates.
- Giving me experience with legal case management software including iManage and PCLaw is highly desirable.
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively in a busy environment (I have proven work experience demonstrating this).
- Exceptional writing skills for drafting memos, correspondence, and legal documents; keen proofreading abilities are essential (I have proven work experience demonstrating this).
- Demonstrated ability to handle confidential information with integrity and professionalism (I have proven work experience demonstrating this).
- Strong interpersonal skills with proficiency in interviewing clients or witnesses when necessary. I do need to be trained here as well.
- Tutelage of UCC law (Uniform Commercial Code), landlord-tenant issues, tribal regulations, patent law procedures, personal injury cases, and securities regulations is a plus but not mandatory.
