Job Overview
We are seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Off Shift - Turret Operator to join our manufacturing team. In this role, you will be responsible for operating turret punch presses and related machinery during off-shift hours, ensuring efficient production of high-quality sheet metal components. Your expertise will help maintain smooth workflow, uphold safety standards, and meet production deadlines.
Responsibilities
- Operate turret punch presses and other fabrication machinery such as CNC laser cutters, press brakes, CNC mills, lathes, and plasma cutters during off-shift hours.
- Set up machines by interpreting mechanical blueprints, technical drawings, and tooling specifications to ensure precise fabrication.
- Program CNC equipment using G-code or other programming languages to produce accurate parts according to specifications.
- Perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting on machinery to minimize downtime and ensure optimal performance.
- Conduct quality inspections using measurement tools like calipers, micrometers, and precision measuring instruments to verify dimensions and adherence to blueprint tolerances.
- Follow safety standards rigorously by adhering to proper lockout/tagout procedures, wearing personal protective equipment (PPE), and maintaining a clean work environment.
- Collaborate with team members on assembly tasks, sheet metal fabrication, and tooling adjustments to meet production goals efficiently.
Skills
- Proficiency in operating manufacturing equipment including CNC laser cutting machines, CNC milling machines, CNC lathes, press brakes, plasma cutters, and electrical discharge machining tools.
- Strong mechanical knowledge with the ability to interpret blueprints, technical drawings (GD&T), and fabrication instructions.
- Experience with CNC programming and tool setup for machining operations.
- Skilled in using hand tools, measurement instruments such as calipers, micrometers, and dial indicators for quality control.
- Ability to perform precision measurement in machining processes and ensure parts meet strict quality standards.
- Knowledge of safety standards in production environments including crane operation when handling sheet metal or heavy materials.
- Basic math skills for calculating measurements, tolerances, and machine settings accurately.
- Familiarity with sheet metal fabrication techniques including plasma cutting, stamping press operation, welding, and tooling adjustments.
- Mechanical blueprint interpretation for effective setup and troubleshooting of machinery.
A skilled operator ensures that the heavy machinery runs accurately, safely, and efficiently. Daily duties typically include:
- Machine Setup: Aligning, loading, and locking various punches and dies into the machine's rotating turret.
- Material Handling: Moving and securing heavy metal sheets or strips onto the machine bed using cranes, forklifts, or manually.
- Blueprint Reading: Translating technical drawings and operations sheets to verify dimensions and part specifications.
- Quality Assurance: Using precision measurement tools such as calipers, micrometers, and height gauges to inspect the first piece and in-process parts.
- Maintenance: Troubleshooting malfunctions, conducting basic preventive maintenance, and maintaining a clean work area.
This role is perfect for motivated individuals eager to contribute their technical skills in a fast-moving manufacturing setting while ensuring safety and quality at every step!
