Job Overview
We're looking for a Furniture Retail Operations Manager to run the show across multiple locations. You'll own the floor, the numbers, and the team. This isn't fast-fashion retail. Furniture is high-ticket, considered-purchase, relationship-driven selling, backed by delivery logistics most retailers never touch. We need someone who's done it before.
Responsibilities
- Run daily store operations: showroom floor sets, vignette merchandising, special-order tracking, and POS transactions from quote to close.
- Drive sales performance across big-ticket categories (upholstery, casegoods, mattresses, outdoor) and hit revenue and average-ticket targets.
- Manage the full order lifecycle: custom and special orders, manufacturer lead times, backorders, warehouse coordination, and white-glove delivery scheduling.
- Recruit, hire, and train sales associates and design consultants; coach them on needs-based selling, not just walking the floor.
- Own payroll, scheduling, and basic bookkeeping
- Control inventory: floor samples, showroom stock, warehouse counts, damages, and shrinkage. Furniture damage and freight claims are a real cost center, watch them closely.
- Oversee cash handling, financing applications, and protection-plan attachment rates.
- Own budgeting, vendor purchasing, and floor-plan resets tied to new product lines.
- Build a culture where the team treats every sale as a relationship, not a transaction, customers often return for a house full of furniture, one room at a time.
- Communicate clearly with warehouse, delivery, and customer service teams so nothing falls through the cracks between sale and doorstep.
Requirements
- Proven experience managing a furniture, mattress, or home-goods store, or a comparable high-ticket, low-frequency retail environment. Furniture experience required.
- Track record of hitting sales targets through a commissioned or design-consultant sales team.
- Working knowledge of POS and order-management systems, special-order workflows, and delivery scheduling.
- Experience with financing programs, protection-plan and mattress sales.
- Hiring, training, and payroll experience. You should be comfortable running the business side, not just the floor.
- Inventory control experience specific to bulky goods: floor samples, warehouse stock, freight damage, and claims.
- Strong organizational skills; you'll juggle sales, logistics, and staffing across multiple locations at once.
