Job Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled CNC Setup Technician & Operator to join a local manufacturing team.
In this role, you will be responsible for setting up, programming, and operating Haas CNC machining centers to produce precision metal components.
Your expertise will ensure that parts are manufactured to exact specifications, utilizing your knowledge of CNC programming, mechanical blueprint interpretation, and measurement techniques.
The ideal candidate will be proactive, detail-oriented, and committed to maintaining high-quality standards in a fast-paced production environment.
Duties
- Prepare and set up CNC machines, including lathes and milling machines, ensuring proper tooling and fixtures are installed according to specifications.
- Develop and modify CNC programs using G-code and M-code, incorporating CAM programming software and SolidWorks or CAD drawings.
- Interpret mechanical blueprints and technical drawings to determine machining requirements and tolerances.
- Perform machine calibration, alignment, and tooling changes to optimize performance and accuracy.
- Conduct precision measurements using calipers, micrometers, bore gauges, and other measurement instruments for quality control.
- Execute manual machining operations when necessary to support production or tooling adjustments.
- Inspect finished parts for conformance to specifications utilizing GD&T principles and quality inspection tools.
- Troubleshoot machine issues promptly to minimize downtime and ensure continuous production flow.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area while adhering to safety protocols related to power tools, grinders, and other machining equipment.
- Collaborate with engineering and quality teams to improve manufacturing processes and implement best practices.
Skills
- Proven experience with CNC lathe and milling machine setup and operation in a manufacturing environment.
- Proficiency in CNC programming languages such as G-code and M-code; experience with CNC G-code programming is essential.
- Strong understanding of mechanical blueprint reading, GD&T standards, and mechanical blueprint interpretation.
- Familiarity with CAM software, SolidWorks, CAD design tools, and tooling selection.
- Knowledge of electrical discharge machining (EDM) processes is a plus.
- Ability to operate measurement tools including calipers, micrometers, bore gauges, bore gauges, and precision measuring instruments for quality control.
- Mechanical knowledge of machining tools such as grinders, hand tools, power tools, lathes, mills, and boring equipment.
- Basic math skills for calculations related to dimensions, tolerances, and machine settings.
- Experience with manual machining techniques in addition to CNC operations.
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot machine issues effectively.
- Excellent attention to detail combined with the ability to interpret complex technical drawings accurately.
- Effective communication skills for collaborating across departments in a diverse team environment.
