Our client, a well-established global organization, is seeking a Senior Benefits Accountant to join their corporate accounting team. This role is ideal for an experienced accounting professional with 4+ years of public accounting and corporate accounting experience who is looking to leverage their technical accounting expertise, financial reporting skills, and analytical abilities to support employee benefit accounting, SEC reporting, and month-end/quarter-end close activities. CPA designation and public accounting experience with a Big 4 or medium to large public accounting firm is required.
Responsibilities:
- Prepare journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial analyses related to employee benefit programs, including pension plans, postretirement benefits, group health insurance, vacation accruals, restricted stock awards, life insurance, deferred compensation, and 401(k) plans
- Perform analytical procedures to support monthly and quarterly financial close processes and ensure accurate reporting of benefit-related expenses and liabilities
- Prepare internal reports, supporting schedules, and analyses for corporate accruals and employee benefit accounting activities
- Assist with reviewing actuarial reports, pension plan data, and stock-based compensation information to support financial statement updates and SEC disclosure requirements for Form 10-Q and Form 10-K filings
- Support preparation and filing requirements related to annual 401(k) savings plan reporting, including Form 11-K audits and related documentation
- Research and resolve accounting and reporting issues while ensuring compliance with GAAP and company accounting policies
- Identify opportunities to improve monthly and quarterly close processes, reporting procedures, and accounting efficiencies
- Collaborate with internal accounting teams, auditors, and cross-functional business partners to support financial reporting initiatives
- Assist with audit requests by preparing schedules, documentation, and responses to auditor inquiries
- Support special projects, process improvements, and other accounting initiatives as assigned
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required
- CPA certification is required
- 4+ years of accounting experience within a Big 4/public accounting firm or within a medium to large public company environment required
- Public company financial reporting experience strongly preferred
- Experience supporting SEC reporting, financial statement preparation, or corporate consolidations is a plus
- Strong technical accounting knowledge with experience related to pension accounting, postretirement benefits, or stock-based compensation preferred
- Experience with month-end and quarter-end close processes, reconciliations, and journal entries required
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills with the ability to work effectively in a collaborative environment
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced, changing organization
Technical Skills:
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills required, including data analysis, complex formulas, pivot tables, reporting functions, and manipulating large data sets
- Experience with ERP and financial reporting systems required
- Experience with consolidation and reporting tools such as OneStream, Hyperion Financial Management (HFM), Oracle Finance, JD Edwards, or Power BI preferred
- Strong technical aptitude with the ability to learn and utilize multiple financial systems and technologies
- Ability to analyze financial data, identify trends, and create meaningful reporting insights
